Is it okay to pinch someone's butt if...

1. She/he is a waitress/waiter in a Hooters bar

2. She/he is a waitress/waiter in a strip joint

3. She/he is giving you an inviting wink

4. It is your spouse and you want attention

I'd say 1, 2, and 3, are definite 'no's', it's never right to pinch someones butt that you don't know, regardless of what job they do, or where they work.

To number 4, I'd say that's up to the married couple, but seeking attention doesn't seem a very good reason, if you were joking around or you were doing at as a compliment to your spouse that's ok, as far as I'm concerned. My husband does this quite a bit, --but not in front of the kids .

That is hard but for 1 through 3 a definite no. The third can be done but only if discrete and both accepting. I know a few ladies that would say no never regardless the reason as it is a chauvinistic act of male supremacy.

Personally I think men accept such attention better then ladies as we receive it less and it is an ego boost.

Only four can be justified if the spouse thinks it is appealing, and one should actually verify if such an act is not irritating or is in fact inviting. In other words, you may think your spouse likes you to do that but it may be very much the opposite.

DianeC pointed out something important - butt pinching in front of children is a definite no-no as it gives them the impression it is 'ok' to do with others.

I have had my butt pinched when I used to work in a restaurant and it was by other female employees! They learnt real fast that I am not fond of that though.

Just a wrench here... what about being butt pinched by someone of the same sex - yikes!

That I will ensure you is a definite surprise. I was in a pub in Toronto when that happened to me. I turned to see who it was and there is this guy winking a me. Not sure what to do I just said sorry mate ladies only. It was weird but looking back I guess its nice to know your attractive.

Well, number 1 to 3 definitly is a no-no. Number 4 is fine as long as your spouse is happy with it. I do it quite often and hubby has not complained as yet.

Butt pinching was a very popular practice in certain areas of Italy in the 70's as a way to show you felt attracted to someone. In India, it was also a popular practice towards foreign women in the 70's too who had the reputation of being "easy".

If you are pinching a complete stranger's bottom I think that this is very disrespectful not to mention, it is a form of sexual harassment! Even if you believe that you are receiving "signals" from the opposite sex (referring to no. 3) it is still wrong. But if it is your spouse, it all depends on the relationship I suppose. Some men or women may not like it and others may consider it to be foreplay! Personally, I don't see anything wrong with the spouse pinching his wife / husband for attention, as long as it is done softly, playfully and not with the intention to deliberately hurt the individual.

When I came back to T&T, I met this English girl who used to like it and it was a kind of interesting occurrence. I thought all English girls enjoyed this! Of course, I was wrong but it was fabulous.
Obviously, one should not pinch strangers since that is really rude!
