Big auto bailout?
The automotive industry is seeing the fruits of posting negative quarterly numbers---the government becomes interested in giving you money. Are the auto makers 'too big to fail'? The only unique characteristic the auto makers have is that it was the government who put very costly restrictions on auto-production...now they are losing money. It's almost like business is best when government gets out of the way.

I would like to see GM FORD fail if they are unable to produce a product that is viable in business. It is time to rebalanced the Auto industry and get back to MR. Fords rule. To make a car every family can afford and have one of then in every home.
The reality is a person like me is stuck as I need 4 wheels and a steering wheel so I get t work. So remove all the extra trash that is not required to make the car safe and drivable. Then charge extra fro those luxury items and nail them big for it. That means stereos, fancy trims, carpeting on the floor, Automatic transmissions, power out lets for junk that makes the driver distracted and a danger on the road. I am not referring to removal of safety equipment like air bags or cushioned dashes.
The Industry has priced its self out of the market that is why they are in trouble. I am tired of them stealing my tax dollars that would be better put to build a better public transportation system.
At 30 to 40 and hour to put a bolt in the hole is a wee bit inflated. I bet the person doing the same thing on a washing machine is make 1/3 of that and works just as hard.
The way this economy is going I would not be surprised to see all three fail. I think that is going to be a big blow to everyone. Throwing money at them and seeing them eating it all up like a hog eating slop is a waste of taxpayer money. I do not see things getting any better soon.
Us Canadians are also concerned it will keep all the industry south and we are not in favor of bailing our car manufacturers out. I seen Mazda was offering 8 year loans at just under 6% to keep the sales up. Nice actually as it was 130 a month. Perhaps this is a better solution though still a false economy but might give time to let things swing around a bit and soften the blow.
I saw the tape of them begging for billions. One Senator was unhappy that they were there to beg because they had no money yet they used private jets to fly to Washington. One auto manufacturer with a smirk on his face claimed that this was done for standard security reasons. Do you buy it?
