NY State Senate Defeats Bill to Legalize Gay Marriage
The New York State Senate has defeated a bill to legalize gay marriage with a vote of 38 to 24. All thirty Republicans voted against it. The Senate vote was conducted Wednesday in a special session called by Governor David Paterson, who has publicly championed the bill. We speak with the bill's lead sponsor, Tom Duane, the New York Senate's only openly gay member. Ref. Source 2
I guess it is the law of the select few getting what they want and not the majority rule like this government was first set up with. I guess we are going to see all states adopt this rule eventually. It could very well be signaling the end of the world.
Yay! About time! I just hope that other countries see this as a step in the right direction and follow suit! People should be able to marry because they love one another regardless of their sexes.

There are loads of gays in New York so there is no surprise that this passed but you know what the biggest thing this is going to do for New York? Its going to bring in even more of the gay population to live and marry there.

Is this - good for New York? More money? Bad, traffic? I read an article on this and to me, I don't get why this was ever an issue - it's like Prohibition was; once you get over the strange quirks people have about it, the government can do what it does best, and find a way to monetize and tax it and make it be profitable. Lawyers will get more money, wedding retailer business will boom, etc. I'm speaking purely from the commercial practical standpoint here, objectively. And yes no doubt it will present more social awkwardness and some actual financial and legal issues, but that's why we have lawmakers and voters and legislation and judges.
I was reading the Yahoo News Comments on an article about this, unsurprised by the offensive and insulting comments left by a majority of the posters, as I've noticed on topics like this, the badmouthers really come out in droves, but I got to thinking about it and wondering, and I checked some other more standard topics, and it's all the same - it didn't seem to matter what the topic was - it just seems commentors need a place for their hate to alight, and you get the same kind of hateful speech whether it's gay marriage or military or politics or sports or animal rescue or natural disasters. There are always an ugly undercurrent of racists, xenophobes, just overall ugly, mean people.
