I am in a region that gets a lot of severe weather especially thunderstorms with multiple strikes of lightning in the general area. I have had to replace two surge protectors but not any of my big high dollar items. I would say that yes the surge protectors are a good idea to have. But you have to remember Murphys law of electronics. "A $300 part will always blow to save the $.03 part."
