Political Meetings More Important?

What do you think about the letter the First Presidency has given all throughout Utah concerning GOP and Demo caucases?

QUOTE
Leaders of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints want their members to attend political caucuses tonight.

In a statement from the First Presidency read to church members throughout Utah on Sunday, church leaders said any ward or stake meetings should not conflict with the important meetings.

Precinct caucuses are the most fundamental grass-roots level of political involvement in Utah. Those who attend caucuses not only play a critical role in nominating candidates, but also in setting the stage for party and public policy, the statement read.

The church statement also reiterated that principles compatible with the gospel may be found in the platforms of all major political parties. While the church does not endorse political candidates, platforms, or parties, members are urged to be full participants in political, governmental, and community affairs.

Both the Democratic and Republican parties will elect delegates and officers for county and state conventions. Caucus meetings will be held at a variety of locations, including schools, businesses and homes.

Important Meetings Political

I do not know if this is analogous but it is how I view the situation.

In the time of Christ, when Jesus was about to be crucified, the political meeting at the time was an angry mob who wanted to take his life. There were hundreds of voices who demanded his death, and few who would stand up against the tides of wickedness

Today the Politics are a little more civil, but there are still life and death issues that are very important to many in the Church (Abortion, civil rights,The death Penalty, Euthanasia etc).

Political involvement is our religion, as it helps shape the world where we must live.

When Brigham Young heard that the saints were in danger on the plains he said.

QUOTE

"Many of our brethren and sisters are on the plains with hand-carts, "¦ and they must be brought here. "¦ Go and bring in those people now on the plains, and attend strictly to those things which we call temporal, "¦ otherwise your faith will be in vain."

Sometimes we have to attend strictly to those things that are temporal, in order to preserve ideals that are a very important part of our lives.
