You've got to be careful with these parades. A few years ago, we were watching a parade where a young 'rosebud queen' was riding in a horse drawn carriage by herself (she was about 8 yrs old), when suddenly the horse started bolting, and ran off down the road, it later tipped the carriage over with the little girl in and she ended up being treated in hospital for head injuries!
The other side to these parades that I think parents should be mindful of is the fact that they tend to draw paedophiles out to watch little children dressed up!
Personally, unless I could be at the side of my children, I don't think I'd like the idea of them participating.
We don't have parades here but I did watch the ones in the US on TV. I can see how nice and fun it can be, unfortunately we live in times with so many sickos lurking around! Hence I think parents should be mindful the way they dress their kids for these kind of events (including boys!) and have them under constant supervision.
Another tragic death on a Parade. This time the victim is a 15 years old.
