Piercing Baby's Ears

I have two boys so I never went through this but I would like to analyze what would you do if you had a baby girl...would you go through the piercing process or you would wait until your daughter is big enough to decide that on her own? Explain your decision.

Personally I think tattoos ear/body piercing are all choices for an adult to make ie some one who is matured in thinking. After all it is a life time marking of the skin adn physical looks.

My second reason against most piercing is that Hep a,b and c are very scary to me and knowing that the person at the local jewelry store knows little about the process required to properly sanitize equipment that has been exposed to body fluids alone would deter me from doing this to a baby or young child.

Also is the person trained as to how to find the nerve in ones ear to prevent permanent facial paralysis? I highly doubt it. (speaking for what I now about Canada only)

I understand some countries actually requiring licensing do do some of these things which I very much am happy to hear.

Best piercing method is a qualified person with a new needle not a piercing gun then the needle can be deposed of in a safe manner.

Sorry am I a bit paranoid in this area and also fee a woman's beauty is best enhanced without hardware or skin dye.

I don't think that I would have a newborn babies ears pierced. It wouldn't seem right, but I don't have a problem with a 1 year plus having their ears pierced.
My daughter had her ears pierced when she was 3, but that was more from default than planned...She really wanted her ears pierced, and so we got her some stick on earrings to pacify her..it didn't work.
We were told that because she has special needs, she probably wouldn't get toilet trained until she was around 7..which we thought was an okay age to get your ears pierced, so to put her off, we promised that as soon as she was toilet trained she could have her ears pierced. She immediately became trained, so we kept our end of the promise, a bit reluctantly, but it's been one of the best things for her.
Firstly, she never messes about with her earrings, she is so proud of them, and secondly, new earrings are a great incentive for her to 'earn' for good behavior.
All in all, I'd say that it's best if the child actually wants the earrings, but have no problem as stated earlier as log as it's not done on a tiny baby.

I see babies with their ears pierced and I just want to cry! I know how it hurts to have the ears pierced, and then to disinfect them each day until they are healed. Poor little baby! How does the mom keep the baby from pulling on them? Then if the piercing was done incorrectly, when the child grows, the pierce will move higher on the ear and not be centered properly.

Personally, I don't like to see jewelry of any kind on infants and small children, especially real gold and gemstones. Children don't understand the value of it, and it shows the parent's just want to flaunt their own wealth. "See? I have so much money, I can decorate my children in gold!"

Much wiser, in my opinion, to wait until a child is old enough to make decisions about ear piercing - and old enough to take proper care of them until they heal!
