Is it better to have a Root Canal or Extraction when your tooth has died?

My mother needed a root canal and if she didn't have good insurance to cover it then she would of paid thousands. Extractions are only necessary if you plan to replace the tooth rather than save it. The purpose of the root canal is to save the tooth but sometimes that's not possible and it has to be extracted.

If I had the choice I would say extraction. I had two root canals and over time they went bad and the tooth had to be removed anyhow. Just save me the time and expense take it out.
