Dbackers, you are right, killing in itself may not be evil, but the question is it justified. Killing a deer just because you can is considered evil by some. Killing someone when it is not necessary because you can make them immobile instead would also be considered evil for some.

QUOTE (KNtoran)
This law is being questioned a lot in the courts and so far has been upheld as far as I know

That is my point. Killing is not as black and white as we will like to make it out to be. There is a lot of considerations. State of mind, which is what this Thread is about, and intent upon some of the major criterion.

I for one know first hand that the law in murder is not black and white. I know there is a lot of gray stuff in this and that is why there is numerous degrees and names for the act of killing another person.

I do agree with you that in all instances one must use judgement and be aware of the intent. But if someone is genuinely trying to kill and innocent unjustifiably, then killing that person would be justified.

In my opinion, it is not very smart to immobilize someone who is trying to kill an innocent. The appropriate response is to kill that person, thus eliminating the need for long drawn out court battles, and the person suing you because you injured them in the ensuing fight.

Criminals who are violent are almost always repeat offenders. We could solve most of our violent crime problems if an armed citizen put a bullet in the brain of a person who is committing that violent crime. It probably wasn't their first time trying to kill another person, but if they are dead it will be the last time.

That is just it, in this Level it does not state the reason for the self-defense it just says that the person's response was to kill.

I'm also a bit puzzled as to why self-defense would be listed here as one of the "Most Evil" even if it is considered the least in the list.

The fact that they did not mention a reason or a motive for the self defense to me makes it plain that you had to kill someone in self defense. Is this wrong? Yes it is wrong morally because you as the person who killed another being is going to have to live with that fact Should you be tried and convicted of a crime for killing another? NO I think getting rid of violent criminals is a good thing. Less to crowd our jails.

There is a very thin line that JB has pointed out. When are you a person justified in taking anothers life and have it still be self defense. The best I can answer this is when your life or the life of another is in clear danger. A teen stealing a garden hose is not a clear danger to you or anyone so that would be wrong to kill them. A man coming at you with a knife would be a clear danger and you would be justified to kill them. A person can list a lot of "what ifs" to get a clearer picture. But the simple solution would be if there is a clear danger to others or not.
