A US man sell the domain name pizza.com for $2.6m - after maintaining it for $20 a year since 1994.

Maybe someone expert in this area can help me understand why a "Pizza.com" would possibly be worth that amount of money? Doesn't the .com and other names just point you to a web site? Couldn't there be a dozen other names just point you to the same web site?

Wow, he is truly a lucky guy. There are thousands of people like him waiting for the right time to sell their domains. You can hardly find any one word domains to buy anymore since they are so valuable.

If the .com is worth that much would pizza.net and pizza.org also be worth the same amount?

Darkscribe they will likely be worth a lot, but not as much as the .COM since no matter what the domain is the .COM is usually worth more. Most people tend to fill in ".COM" when they can't remember a domain name and they're guessing.
