Detergent

Clothes that smell great and feel just comfy soft are important to me - which brand of laundry detergent do you use?

Depends on how tight my budget is smile.gif Currently using Tide, which is a great laundry soap but tends to cost more than others -- it really gets stains out of my daughter's clothes, and it has several different scents now. We also use "Biz" which is a kind of color-safe bleach.

I buy whatever is on sale. I got 6 - 1/2 gal. bottles of Xtra for $1.99!! I prefer liquid, because I wash and rinse with cold water and sometimes the powder just doesn't dissolve totally in cold water.

I use Borateem as a laundry booster. Just add 1/4 - 1/2 cup and it really helps the detergent do its job. I also do NOT use the recommended amount of soap. It is WAY too much. I find that for a full load of towels, 1/2 cup of liquid is plenty. If the clothes are really dirty= jeans or work clothes, then 3\4 cup. Let it agitate for about 5 minutes, then turn the machine off. Put your hands in the water and wash your hands, if the water feels soapy and your hands come clean then you have plenty of soap in there.

I use Borateem color safe bleach too. BIZ used to have a live enzyme - don't know if it still does or not, but it would give me migraines when I used it. So I am very leery of it. I use ZOUT for stains ~ all stains. It is fantastic!

We usually use GAIN laundry detergent. However, most recently we are trying TIDE coldwater to save energy. If it works well we may stick with it. We also use the liquid laundry detergents vs the powder versions.

I use Liquid Tide. I usually use the one with Bleach Alternative. I do all my laundry in cold water. I always have. My clothes come clean without any problem. I don't see any need for hot water to wash clothes. This is a habit I gained in the 70's when I was in high school. It was a time of high inflation and high unemployment. It became popular then to wash in cold water. My family did and I saw nothing wrong with it, so I have always done so myself.

We go to Sam's Club, and buy 40lb buckets of detergent. It works great, lasts a long time, and we end up with perfectly useable buckets for storage of all sorts of things.

We do use warm water to wash, but cold to rinse. No hot water at all.

Because of where I live (and the fact I do not read Japanese yet), I have absolutely no idea what brand of detergent I buy. My wife tells me that the name of the product is called "Spotless". Never the less, it is in a nifty refillable bottle that shows clothes (this was my indicator that it was a detergent) on the front and has a measuring cup. The refills are in a plastic colapsable pouch. They do this a lot in Japan. Soap, shampoo, detergent, toilet cleaner, glass cleaner and many other things all have a very convenient refillable bottle and offer the plastic pouches as refills. Definitely helps the landfilling or burning situation.

My only concern the first time I bought it was that it might be a fabric softener!

Offtopic but,
This has not only been a problem for me. The first time my wife came the the US, she mistakenly bought denture adhesive (it was close to all the toothpaste) instead of toothpaste.

We use a detergent called Bold, it washes great even at low temperatures, and smells great too!

It even gets out the great assortments of food stains out of my kids clothes, what more can I ask for? laugh.gif
