Obamacare achieving its goal: single payer

Anyone who cared to think a little deeper than 'free healthcare for all', quickly found that Obamacare would drive private insurers out of business. The first wave of that is already happening, and once again the insurers will be vilified. Glenn explains how Obamacare is already pushing private enterprise out of the picture in this free video clip. Ref. Source 9

Comments: Where in the constitution does it say that the government is responsible for our health care

Article 1 section 8
international QUOTE
The Congress shall have Power To lay and collect Taxes, Duties, Imposts and Excises, to pay the Debts and provide for the common Defence and general Welfare of the United States; but all Duties, Imposts and Excises shall be uniform throughout the United States;

international QUOTE
general Welfare of the United States

This is in obvious reference to the country as a whole and not the individual people. Otherwise, we would have had national healthcare back in the 1700's as there were many poor and the government actually ran on a positive budget for a majority of the time (until Roosevelt). But even if we take the meaning as to provide goods and services to those in need, that still does not give the excuse to create a national health care which covers those that are not in need. Basically, what you have quoted was a justification for Welfare, Bluecross and Blueshield. This national health care is being forced on many that do not need it. We are not forced into Bluecross and Blueshield nor are we forced to take unemployement or welfare. Additionally, since it is going to cost us more (and the government is admitting this now), I am failing to understand how it improves the general Welfare of the country as we will be putting a huge amount of debt on our already massive tab to the Chinese and Japanese.

When you look at it as "Healthcare for everyone" it's very obvious that Article 1 Section 8 supports the idea. The peoples health is the general welfare. Extrapolating one could argue that the costs of providing that would outweight the benefits of the program. But it is constitutionally supported, and thanks to our congress, this will not be passed unless it can be proven over 100 pages that it doesn't cost more then it is worth.

Can you feel that? Obamacare kicks in today

Ahhh, and all the medical issues in America vanish just like that! As if this needed to be pointed out, big new changes courtesy of Obamacare begin today. Look for Obama administration officials to wait a good week or two before they start claiming America's healthcare system is now perfect. Glenn has more on radio today. Ref. Source 7

Sorry...got news for you. The healthcare for everyone has been passed and they didn't even really check on if it would cost more than it is worth before voting on it. That has been the major victory for Obama and Pelosi. However, the news coming out of the federal government now (while hushed) is that it will actually cost you more now for your healthcare than it had before. So much for cost cutting or actually controlling costs! OH...and a good deal of that is going to the massive government overhead that is being created with this program.

Welfare as definted by Webster:

international QUOTE
a : aid in the form of money or necessities for those in need b : an agency or program through which such aid is distributed

The key to this is it is done for those in NEED. What we are getting is not for just those in need. It covers everyone...which now makes it not a welfare program...which now precludes it from the statement in the constitution which has been stretched to try and umbrella it.

Healthcare for everyone sounds good, but it is not supported by the constitution. Additionally, the quote:

international QUOTE
provide for the common Defence and general Welfare of the United States

shows that they were talking about the country in general. If not, the government owes us all a weapon for common defense or at least they should provide us with free karate lessons for all.

It has always amazed me that a first world nation like the US cannot give free health care considering the enormous amount of taxes that is taken from her citizens. I can understand that maybe specialized care should be paid for by the individual especially when it is as a results of the person's own carelessness with their body BUT emergency situations should be taken care of without being asked "Who is your health insurer?".

Federal health care laws for 2011 start to kick in

This year's changes include guarantees that at least 80 percent of premiums will be spent on patient care, Medicare recipients will get drug discounts and free preventive care, and chain restaurants will post calorie counts. But higher-income seniors may face some pricier Medicare premiums and flexible spending accounts can't be used anymore to buy nonprescription drugs. Ref. Source 7
