Economic woes compelling teens to be more frugal

NEW YORK - The souring job market and rising costs of the usual teenage indulgences - a slice of pizza, a drive to the mall, the hottest new jeans - are causing teens to do something they rarely do: be thrifty. It's a far cry from the freewheeling spending of recent years, when teens splurged on $100 Coach wristlet handbags, $60 Juicy Couture T-shirts and $80 skinny jeans from Abercrombie & Fitch.

Teens Frugal

I never really had a problem with spending on expensive stuff. Maybe mostly that's because I'm a guy. But I've always just worn what I wanted, used whatever I wanted to. I never cared about brand name stuff or what the popular people wear.

I don't really think teenagers are changing their spending habits. I think it's just teens were always just trying to get their parents to give them money for things and now the parents won't.

Although teens with cars probably are having a hard time paying for gas and just buying whatever they want. They probably just choose these days what's more important.

Oh, please, man.
Ask anyone. There are plenty of frugal teens. I know you all probably find it hard to believe, but I was a frugal teen. I don't like to spend money. When I do, I spent it a little bit each time. I never buy anything over $20 without my parent's permission, even now.
