1/4 | cup | millet, 1 1/2 oz, uncooked | |
1/4 | cup | barley, 1 1/2 oz, uncooked | |
1/3 | cup | brown rice, 2 oz, uncooked | |
1 | cup | onions, chopped | |
1 | cup | green bell pepper, chopped | |
1/2 | cup | carrots, finely chopped | |
1 | each | kidney beans, canned, drained | |
8 | oz | tomato sauce | |
1 | pound | tomatoes, canned, chopped, drained, reserve liquid | |
1 1/2 | cup | corn, canned, drained or frozen | |
1 | teaspoon | oregano, dried | |
1 | teaspoon | basil, dried | |
1/2 | teaspoon | garlic powder | |
1 | salt, to taste | ||
1 | pepper, to taste | ||
Directions: | |||
Combine all ingredients in a crockpot. Add water to reserved tomato liquid to equal 2 1/2 cups. Stir into grain mixture. Cover and cook on low setting 8 hours. Stir before serving. Serves 8 as a side dish and 4 - 6 as a filling main course. You can use any combination of grains. Just use about 1 cupful altogether. |
