I agree with you mousetrails that if the States would have drilled and produced their own oil it would most definitely help drive the oil price down. My thought is that they really do not desire that. After all as I stated prior using an average inflation rate of 3% since 1986 when gas was 89 cents a liter we should by rights be at 1.40 per liter and we are at 1.20.
I do realize they are making more sales now then before thus the overall profit is there, but if you won the company would you not be looking for the missing component. This is not a conspiracy per say but a business decision. (If you have to question their profits many broke a billion dollar mark in the first quarter thus proving the prices as are is very sustainable.)
So now they are pushing to recover this and if the market supports it why would they bother to tap the USA resources till the prices are even higher. The tap in as the foreign wells drain low and sell back to them at an ever greater profit. Good business opportunity but at what social cost...
The food shortage scare is the fault of the government no question since it is their own policies that permit food to be used for gas. This I can also lay at the door step of every green party out their also. Why not pay to make better alternate sustainable fuel/ energy sources rather then pay farmers not to farm.
Second the food industry alone puts a super heavy duties burden on our oil supply! What do we buy that is not wrapped in plastic because it is cheap and fast to make, not to mention toys, eatery, paving companies, ect.
Perhaps the hippies pressured the government into not tapping their resources for oil but I am not sure that we need to so much as rethinking how we live and produce goods. I think that is the first correct step to take and the only way it will change is by high oil costs. After all we resistance change better then any thing else.
Yes we all like to point the finger at one of the most obvious issues and blame it all on them. But what about the rest of the issues that remain unspoken of?
I also think the media hype is also increasing the apparent food shortage in that many are now hoarding in fear, thus proving the experts are correct. For me and mine we do not eat much corn or wheat products since they are toxic to my wife and youngest being border line celiacs. If meat gets to expensive wild game will have to supplement our diet besides its better for you.
I have never figured out why we need to consume so much rice or wheat or corn as the are not great sources of nutrients and are the first thing on removes from their diet if you have any health issues. So maybe we really as a country need to eat better. I have eaten bread 3 times in the past 6 months....If people move away from the heavy processed foods the demand for much of the corn and wheat fillers will reduce easing the burden also.
Perhaps I am just letting my personal feeling cloud my thoughts as far as the big oil producers are concerned and specific government officials. But they most certainly are not innocent in all this either.

I believe that there is a better fuel source out there now that we can use. The only problem is getting stations that have it. This would be the hydrogen fuel cell. I believe Honda is even advertising this vehicle on the US markets. With this vehicle that produces no emissions other than water or the electric car we have enough for the average commuter to go to work and back daily and not use any gasoline. IF 1/4 of the drivers switched to this and not used gasoline I believe the gas prices will drop dramatically as usage drops quickly. We could even see gas at or below $1.50 a gallon. Oil prices per barrel would drop to around $40 - 50 a barrel I think. I am not sure but it could happen.
This is just a projection by me only.
Moving on... I have found that the dependence on the new global market allows rogue States, especially the large ones, to have too much 'say' on what happens in another land. For instance, if your country depends on beef coming from another country and that same country decides to raise beef 50% then your people will pay the price unless you can locate another supplier. Politics, politics, politics and greed, the same old tune that never stops playing. Do we have an example of a society that provides for their own nutritional needs without using any imports?

Ah a voice of reasoned thought. Thank you Vincenzo. You are a breath of fresh air in a liberal swamp.
To make a mistake is human. To really screw up takes a computer. To make a mess out of everything in sight takes a government "helping" out.
I just heard on the news that Exxon just paid $9.32 billion in taxes in the first quarter of this year. What is our screwed up government doing with those dollars? Who will ever know? The problem with government is it is not paid based on results. Whatever happens they still get a paycheck and we allow them to get bigger every year.

I'm not going anywhere, I never run for debate or Discussion, after all I believe I did start the Thread about the Food Storage Controversy. In my opinion you are not adding anything new to the Discussion, you are just repeating yourself with old quotes, and because I still do not understand your original Posts and the subsequent ones after it I just do not answer it, so that you do not need to repeat yourself again - in other words - agree to disagree or agree to not understand each other or at least I do not understand what you are on about still, too bad if that bothers you. Keep fighting though, it is good entertainment.
Rather off topic, but... Mousetrails why do you limit yourself to one or two Threads? There are hundreds here - have a go. Boxing bell: Ding! Ding! |

Oh please, it is easy to accuse others of running and not taking the heat eh? I chose to drop the topic and move on, but you just had to keep 'kicking the pricks'.
Hopefully, moving on now. Greed, greed, greed, politics, politics, politics... that is the underlying thing that leads people to Food Shortage. How can ANY business claim to have to raise food prices and at the SAME time say they doubled their profits - the math is simple.
