Former CIA Director David Petraeus was sentenced to two years probation and ordered to pay a $100,000 fine after admitting to showing classified information to his biographer, acting U.S. Attorney Jill Westmoreland said in a statement.
"I want to take this opportunity to apologize for the pain my actions have caused," Gen. Petraeus said before being sentenced.
Petraeus resigned in November 2012 as director of the Central Intelligence Agency after a romantic relationship with his biographer, Paula Broadwell, became public. Petraeus previously oversaw operations in Afghanistan and Iraq and at one time was touted as a potential presidential candidate. Ref. CNN
He basically got off easy because of the plea deal. At least this will serve as a warning to others with classified information to keep their mouth shut.
