What are your thoughts about the Susan Chamberlain vs. Kaplans case where Susan Chamberlain agreed in 1992 to be the surrogate mother for Joseph and Jean Kaplan US$25000? Susan Chamberlain changed her mind when the baby was born, it went to court. It took three weeks for the judge to make a decision in which the child was given to the Kaplans. This case has been featured in several documentaries and news reports because of the controversial aspects of it. What are your thoughts?

I don't know what to think of this case. It disgusts me the way they went about it. Susan Chamberlain and Joseph Kaplan made a verbal agreement with the promise of Susan getting US$25,000. Instead of using artificial insemination, they had sex several times before she conceived, in a hotel watching pornographic movies and at the Kaplan's own bed.

What in the world were they thinking? Particularly, the husband of Susan Chamberlain and the wife of Mr. Kaplan? *shaking head* It seems to me that BOTH parties were NOT fit to become parents!

It is sick! They said they would tell the kid when he grows up (now surely a teenager) how he end up becoming their son, I wonder if they would tell him the whole story.

Comments: I think Susan was thoroughly used by the Kaplans. I caught the rerun of 20/20 this weekend and I totally support Susan. I knew she would lose everything because she wasn't rich. This isn't the time to learn the lesson - you don't deal with people like that. People who have no recognition that other people exist or that people exist only to be used by them. As I understand he came penniless to this country - how is he all of a sudden rich? As for Mrs. Kaplan, why have her children abandoned her? She in turn made sure that Susan's child was abandoned. The Kaplans [behaved] disgusting. They reneged on their payment of $25000. They used her body for nothing, and what nerves me is she did this out of the act of kindness - something they could never comprehend. They are totally unaware that anyone exists other than themselves. I wish I were rich that I could give Susan the money and more. She deserves it.

Out of kindness? Are you speaking about another case? Nobody goes and sleep several times with an old man like Mr. Kaplan for the kindness of her heart. Let's be realistic here.

Well as far as media I went to a lawyer for help I had no idea this was going to turn into a circus no idea I was young 26 at the time and had no idea about outside world wanted my other kids to have a house and family like the all time american dream...as the saying goes if I knew than what I know now would of never done it but I did and I lived with the consequences for many years and still do...as far as sleeping with Mr.Kaplan yes wrong but being young and didn't exactly know what I was getting into as far as a tubal reversal..I was shock and in disbelief thought a tubal reversal was the same way as a tubal ligation through belly button didn't know or understand it was a surgery like a C section and to be honest I sacraficed alot up to the time I was asked I thought of my other kids and what I wanted for them and sometimes you just sacrafice what you need to for your children and I did what it took obviously backfired big time.Why not do invitro that was the way it was suppose to go not my whole choice of it not...that was my full intention...I saw a infertility doctor here for it where I have lived don't think I would of done that if sleeping with Mr. Kaplan was my intention would of just did it but did see a infertilty doc in my hometown in first place..More questions just ask....

Thanks for replying. Not sure if I understand though. Are you saying medically in vitro wasn't a choice? Also who came up with the plan that this was the way the child was going to be conceive? Also you was married at that time how in the world your husband agreed to this?
