Out of Character: I missed some of Grizzly's rolls, sorry about that, here are the rest of them.
Hearing the commotion Mykael leaps up from his bedroll grabs his sword and shield and prepares for combat. He looks down where his armor lies and clenches his jaw in frustration knowing that he likely doesn't have time to don the armor, even if he were to do so hastily. Gripping his sword and shield Mykael waits for the inevitable attack.
Feeling vulnerable without his armor Mykael does his best to position himself in such a way that he attempts to use the earth elementals that Archival summoned as a buffer of sorts attempting to maneuver the elementals between him and any approaching enemies and then attempting to flank any creature or enemy that the elementals engage. Hoping to minimize his exposure to attack while maximizing his own ability to strike.
Out of Character: : I believe AC for Mykael drops to a measly 13 (+2 for the shield and +1 for the shield focus trait). I included a dexterity check, not sure if you wanted that to determine how successful Mykael is at putting his tactics into play, but I included it just in case.
The beast charges into the dim light of the camp, knocking down Theaton's tent. You recognize the head of an owl and body of a bear.
Grizzly wastes no time, running in but biting ineffectually. Mykael gets up as he grabs his sword an shield, thankful for Archival's light gear and his quick summoning. The elemental rises out of the earth and slams into the Owlbear (12 damage). Theaton charges across the field while drawing his weapon and places a well aimed blow into the beast's hide (6? Damage), despite the bad lighting and moving shadows from the campfire. Zork's arrow punctures the Owlbear and it squawks in pain (8 damage). White Fang also closes in but doesn't get a bite.
The Owlbear rears up to take revenge on those who injured it. One claw comes crashing down on Theaton (10 damage) and it grabs him. The other claw and its open beak aim for the earth elemental (17 damage) and it is also grabbed. The Owlbear holds Theaton and the elemental together in a bear hug, restricting their movement.
Grizzly's next bite hurts the beast (5 damage) but doesn't trip it and Mykael moves into a flank opposite White Fang to deliver his blow (10 damage). The elemental doesn't bruise the Owlbear this time. Archival focuses his thoughts on the Plane of Earth again, but tears open a hole bigger than he expected and 3 more come to its aid. The three new elementals pummel the Owlbear into submission (41 damage), killing it and releasing their kin and Theaton.
The pre-morning air is crisp but humid. Puffs of vapour form in front of your mouths lit by the campfire against the dark backdrop of the night. Everyone could probably get one more hour of sleep before sunrise if you wanted, with Theaton staying on watch.
Out of Character: I will take Perception checks, actions you take in the morning, and where you intend to go now. You are only a few miles from the statue should you wish to return, and there is also two last swathes of land in this quarter left to explore (Map updated).
Also, please know your bonuses! I'm not sure where Theaton got an extra +1 damage from and Zork should be shooting at +7 with a +5 on damage.
Aeric, please level Mykael up if you get the chance.
Out of Character: I updated my combat rolls to just what you said in that format. The BAB and all that other stuff is confusing.
In Character: Zork wipes his brow and recovers any arrows he can. He looks over Grizzly and pets him, "Good job boy!"
Zork relates what he saw last night. "There was something small in the camp before the monster came… " he looks at Theaton with suspicion.
Seeing the owlbear fall Mykael assesses his surroundings to ensure there are no more hostiles and then returns his sword to its scabard. With only an hour remaining he chooses to begin donning his armor rather than returning to sleep. "Another Owlbear?" he says absentmindedly to his companions as he carefully dons his armor "Do you guys think there are many more out there?"
After eating a light breakfast and hydrating by taking a few drinks from his water skin, Mykael packs up Patoot and prepares to move out again following Theaton's lead. "Nice summoning Archival" he says as he mounts up "Might take it down a notch though lest you start making me feel irrelevant. With your earth elementals the party doesn't seem to have much use for my talents." He chuckles as he guides Patoot into position at Theaton's rear left flank.
"Where to now chief?" he looks to Theaton
Out of Character: : Sorry, I did level up the character in terms of HP, stats, etc prior to combat starting, but I failed to change the number from Fighter3/Paladin1 to Fighter3/Paladin2. I've corrected it now.
Out of Character: The +2 for damage is my strength bonus of +2 thus the damage is a d8 +2 for strength. The +1 of the sword being a MW is not added to damage.
In Character: Theaton will lead the group to check out the two swathes that we have missed to make sure this area is totally searched. After that we will begin to search a new area. White fang will range a bit ahead to scout some.
