Theaton says, "I think we can see what is going on around here and why the Mites are torturing he Kobolds. There is something brewing around here that we need to understand and know about for our mapping."

Game Master says...

"Untie" The kobold chirps weakly in broken common. "Me say all. You ask questions, me answer all."

Jhod looks supportive of the action, and helps by channeling energy, a more powerful display compared to Shivas's. The roots twitch and grow almost excitedly and the familiar smell of a lush forest fills the air as all heal 8 hit points and feel their strength energized. The display is over in a second and everything returns to normal.

The kobold looks very impressed.

Theaton will untie the Kobold and then ask for his name and what has befallen him. He will also tell him that they are here to recapture a idol.

Game Master says...

"Thank, thank!" Says the kobold in his continued broken common. With much back and forth and three interpretations you come to the understanding that his name is Mikmek and he is from the kobold cave. He was caught by the mites as his group was outside the burrow, preparing to infiltrate and recover their stolen idol, the very same one that you mention!

Mikmek shouts in glee and tells you it is in the very next room across the gorge but there was a giant monster in the gorge as well as more mites. Then they can take it to the cave and show the shaman Tartuk. Then the curse will be lifted, and no kobolds will have their scales turn yellow and die. The sermons can come back and the ghosts of their can judge the bad kobolds again. He also seems willing to help in the fight but needs a weapon, anything.

Theaton will head towards the next room to see what we face from the monster in the chasm.

Theaton heads down the dirt slope to the edge of the chasm. It is only about 20 feet deep and its rough walls are decorated with numerous roots. 30 feet away at the north end lies something hugely long, coiled up and covered in black chitinous plates. The width across the chasm is only about 20 feet, with numerous loops tied into the roots above to act as handholds.

Theaton will attempt to cross over the 20 feet after testing the root loops to make sure they will hold him.

Game Master says...

The two loops Theaton can reach hold his weight, but looking ahead, he sees that a set of the loops have been purposely tied to fall off. Avoiding the rigged knots, Theaton easily starts climbing, but not before garnering the attention of the chasm dweller.

Luckily it is slow to react, and as its monstrous form slithers along the wall, it reveals its hideous form. The 25 foot long creature has many segments covered in black chitin and each sporting a pair of short legs. At its end lash out two whip-like tendrils, identifying it, as Theaton knows, as a giant Whiptail Centipede. Its red eyes glower at him as two large mandibles drip with poison.

It is squeezing at the bottom of the pit, slowing its ascent, and giving everyone some time to react.

Additionally, Theaton makes out some details of the room across the chasm. A row of pegs hold filthy cloaks along the north wall, and in the small section of the room that's visible, at least two mites stand looking at a table, upon which stands a statue that's partly visible.
