The Second says...Zork is not about to go hand to hand with a bear so he uses his two javelins in succession.
Zork II Results:
- Initative on D20 : 8 (1 roll + explode)
- Javelin on D20 (+3): 8, 9 (2 rolls + explode)
- Damage on D6 (+3): 5, 9 (2 rolls)

Game Master says... Theaton's first arrow strikes the bear, hurting it and taking it aback. Zork misses and Jhod casts Bless, saying "Erastil, grant your servants to power to cleanse this place and worship you."
(All +1 to attack and damage)
Then the bear charges forward, being careful down the cracked stone steps and heading straight for Jhod. (20' away)
Theaton places another two arrows in it, injuring it badly and enraging it further. Zork is not so lucky. Jhod steps forward, lifts a hand in a halt signal and commands, "Be still, be calm!" He casts Calm Emotions.
The bear is just too maddened to listen to the puny human and charges straight into him, mauling him with a paw and holding onto him in a grapple.
(Jhod 4 damage)
Out of Character: I added 1 for Dexterity to your initiative, Zork.

The Second says... Zork is furious at his misses and feels guilt seeing Jhod being attacked. He immediately whips out his bow and starts firing.
Out of Character: Here is hoping I get a 20 so I can see what exploding numbers offer.
Zork II Results:
- Long bow with bless on D20 (+4): 20, 11 (2 rolls + explode)
- Damage with bless on D20 (+4): 21, 5(-5) (2 rolls + explode)

Game Master says... Theaton desperately fires arrows before Jhod gets mauled, and manages to injure the bear quite badly. Zork gets one shot placed well in its leg, and the bear gives up, tipping over.
It growls, then seems to smile, relief in its eyes. As its eyelid close, the bear begins to shrink. It takes the form of a wrinkled old man, who seems to age rapidly and shrink further. He fades away until all that is left is dust blowing in the wind
Around you, the mood in the clearing seems to brighten as the sunlight shines. The mud, algae and moss in the oval pool clear to reveal clear water contained in polished grey stone. The layer of moss covering the steps and elk carving fades away, revealing the detail work. Sadly, the steps and columns remain in disrepair.

He then prompts him to lead the way in checking what is inside the temple where the bear came out.
