In Character: Zork says aloud, "Wow, this is a great way to stay awake during overnight watch, thanks for your help."
Out of Character: Zork will first will himself to sleep but if he cannot then he goes with the constitution checks.
Oathday 24 Gozran
Zork is somewhat unfazed by the night awake, only fatigued the next morning, but not exhausted. The whispering noises stop a few minutes before dawn and the silence before morning is unbearable. But it soon passes and the song of birds and trees in the wind sound so sweet.
You travel through the muddy ford and bandit camp, heading straight for Oleg's. In the old camp however, Theaton sees movement off to the side.
Both of you spot what you think is a moving lump of seaweed, but turns out to be the hair of a small ladylike figure with webbed hands and feet. She's about the size of an elf child and clothed in leaves, seaweed and lily pads with a sword in he belt and small crossbow on her back. She is turned away from you digging in the ground.
Out of Character: That was an excellent diplomacy check by Zork. It's a shame you didn't give in to the demands.
This creature will be a Knowledge(Nature) check to identify.
Zork stops and looks at the creature curiously trying to see if there are any friends around.
Out of Character: Not sure what you mean? Wasn't the diplomacy check to talk myself out of the situation? Are you saying that the check didn't matter because I did not roll to see jay kind of creature?
Out of Character: You whispered your reply, which the fey couldn't hear. They asked you to approach the forest, away from your camp, and if you had they would have insisted on a gift.
I'm going to tell you what is asked for in the adventure, but please avoid using the knowledge in character. There is a Diplomacy check to befriend them whenever you leave a gift. The difficulty is very high but you get a bonus depending on the value of the gift.
In Character: Zork sees no other movement around and Theaton confirms. There is only one set of muddy web-prints coming from the east right up to her position.
She spins around in shock, shouting "Eek!" And some words you don't understand. She runs to a fallen log, jumps over and crouches behind it.
She cocks her head to one side at Theaton's words and replies but Theaton only understands the words 'not', 'river', 'not' again and 'move'.
She must speak Sylvan, since this is a Nixie, and their other language, Aquan, shares no words with Elven. They are fey which act as guardians to small bodies of water and have some resistance to spells and weapons not forged of cold iron.
As Theaton begins his slow approch, she uslings her crossbow from her back, wide eyed and aiming at your legs. You're about 60 feet away.
