Listening to Archival he replies, "True that, but they can still do the hard work for us, can;t they?" A wicked grin follows on Zork's face as he looks at the bandits.
Out of Character: My intimidation roll was pretty good.
"Please, sir, be merciful," The bandits say to Zork. "We truly do not know where they all are and we don't want to get injured. We're sorry for your friend and are happy that he was healed."
They are relieved when Caelum sets them off. Theaton yanks each anchoring chain out of the ground, collecting the 6 bear traps.
Out of Character: Spotting 6 bear traps, 600 XP each!
Archival shrugs. “Theaton was wanting you to show us to the burial site you spoke of earlier. After that he had a mind to turn you into the proper authorities. That being said,” Archival looks from Mykael, to Zork, to Theaton before continuing, “our charters from the Swordlords state that we should strive against banditry and other unlawful behaviour, and that the – and I quote - 'punishment for unrepentant banditry remains, as always, execution by sword or rope.' Are you each still of a mind to have them show us the burial site and then turn them over to the guards at Oleg's? Technically, according to our charters, we are also the proper authorities right now. My offer to mark them with magic and alerting the guards at Oleg's still stands. As I said before, it is painless.”
Theaton says, "We will pack up their camp site and then we will go to the burial site. We will take them to Oleg's after that and turn them over there. They can decide what to do with them from there." Theaton will start to pack up their campsite after it is packed up he will use a stick to uncover their stash to make sure it is not booby trapped.
"I would have to agree with Archival. The charter seems to grant us the authority to dispense justice in the case of unrepentant banditry. I think using the mark would be a good idea, if we run across them again and they are back to their villainous ways it would show their lack of repentance and we can deal with them appropriately. I don't know if we need to drag them all the way back to Oleg's" Mykael pauses to think for a moment "On the other hand leaving them out here in the middle of nowhere unarmed would probably be the equivalent of a death sentence. Perhaps we should take them back to Oleg's but use your mark as well Archival."
Zork is amused by the begging and when he sees the others yank out the bear traps he turns to the bandits and says, "Today is your lucky day."
He just nods and listens to the current conversation ready to go to the next 'stage'.
The bandits reply, “you are fair to take us this Oleg’s place if that’s what you want. When we’re done here we will take you near the burial site but it was hidden with greenery last time and we may have to search for it again.”
They glumly watch as you pack their things and Theaton unearths their canvas covered stash. He drops the material to reveal a dented but polished breastplate with an embossed image of a sword with sun rays radiating from the hilt. A matching longsword lies next to it along with a meagre stash of coins, a few minted locally but mostly from various other nations. There’s 38 copper in the style of Mendev’s coins, 29 silver and 12 gold from many other nations of Avistan. There are also 10 arrows with Cold Iron heads.
Out of Character: More perception checks as you continue your exploration.
Mykael immediately recognizes the symbol on the breastplate; he kneels down to examine it closer and runs the fingers of his hand along the image of the sword and as he does so an image of a woman clad in full plate armor flashes across his mind’s eye. The woman stands wielding a long sword and carrying a shield bearing the same image as the one on the breastplate. Rays of light emanate from her shield.
The image quickly fades but it leaves in its wake a sense of awe that penetrates Mykael’s core. “Iomede” he whispers then turns to look at the bandits “where did you get this?” he demands as he stands up and squares off with them.
Mykael does not make any attempts to “claim” the armor or the sword but if anyone else attempts to he will object and insist that the items should only be worn/wielded by one consecrated to Iomede; his intent at this time is to return the items to the nearest temple dedicated to the warrior goddess.
