In Character: Zork listens to Mykael Brewmor speak about the sword and armor while twisting his lip but does not interject or add anymore to it feeling it is now a lost cause he focuses on what he needs to do now - get better equipped.
Out of Character: Some of those items need to be traded to get a money value for it because the actual treasure isn't enough from what I'm reading in the GM's sheet. Maybe Icon can give us a figure so we can divide it but keep the unusual items like the sextant.
Archival looks slightly confused, "I never stated I wanted to buy them as serfs. Each man is free, as you say and I agree. I spoke out against corporal punishment and backed Mykael's suggestion of having them perform a local service as a means of showing their repentance.
What is it with this desire and acceptance of cutting off digits and limbs of people? Are we barbarians now? I have been taught that corporal punishment is rarely the proper answer and harms the one enacting it almost as much as the one suffering it. Violence begets violence in the heat of the moment. When cool heads prevail, violence should be the last resort again and reserved for only the most horrific of crimes. Taking away the ability of an individual to earn an honest living will only result in them resorting to dishonest means, except this time their actions would have us as the root cause.
I brought this up during our journey and I should probably bring it up again - instead of cutting off their fingers, allow me to mark them with magic. I can maintain the marks until they have paid off their debt."
Out of Character: Aiding me is slightly harder than aiding others. It requires a 15 DC check instead of DC 10. I will make a Diplomacy check to attempt to sway everyone to accept the magical mark instead of cutting off their fingers. Caelum will attempt to assist me as well. I know you can't normally take 20 on Diplomacy checks. If I can take a 10, my result is 22. If you decide not to allow it then my result is whatever I rolled, +2 if Caelum succeeds on a DC 15 check because of my Paranoid Drawback.
Oleg is dismissive on the topic of the sword and armour, "I do not see the power of the gods guide the world every day. They only seem to channel through rare individuals and I doubt Iomedae would take notice of a sword and armour, considering they aren't even magical."
Kesten is unsure, "I admit, I also don't know much of Iomeade's teachings. Gorum certainly wouldn't mind as long as the items were put to use in battle. You won the duel though, it's entirely your decision."
Mykael nods his approval “Right, I think between Archival and I we should have no problem paying for their lodging, assuming you are still willing to assist in this Archival?” he looks to Archival to make sure he is still on board with helping to pay for the lodging.
“What will their lodging cost and when will payment be due?” he asks
Out of Character: : I think Option 1 would be the most fair; it wouldn’t be right to split loot that existed before Mykael and Archival arrived. Were the weapons and armor in option 3 from the bandits or from Theaton/Zorks previous encounters? Because I think the same should apply in that case; if they are from the bandits then I’d say option 1 and 3 is fine.
Theaton tells the others he is heading in for the night and will see them in the morning. He heads to find a bed to sleep on and get a nice night of sleep for a change.
Out of Character: The funds that we had before the others came aboard should be split between Zork and Theaton with 10% heading to the new party fund. Then go with option 3
Oleg says his rooms are normally 5 silver a night with meals included, and Kesten urges you to keep them separate, for a total cost of 1 gold a night. Oleg trusts you to pay when you can, perhaps each time you return to the trading post.
Out of Character: Option 3 was all from the 6 bandits you all fought.
Splitting the fund as it was found at the start will net Theaton and Zork 873.86 and 194.18 left over. Most of that was given by the Kobolds. Let's call it Option 4.
I will try to do a full update within 14 hours.
"Alright," Kesten says as he grabs the bandits by their collars. "No talking during the night. My two guards will be posted by your doors at all times." He leads them over to the guest house where they take up two lockable rooms. That leaves you to double up in each room so you draw straws for the beds, leaving Archival and Zork to sleep in bedrolls on the floor.
The uneasy sleep brings a vivid dream to all and everyone remembers its details in the morning. A bright white orb comes into focus. The moon hangs above a graveyard stretching as far as you can see. You are alone wherever you look and as far as you run.
There is a chorus of wolf howls when the cratered sphere turns to reveal the faint suggestion of a grinning skull. You step back into an open grave and feel yourself fall...
Sunday 12 Desnus
Everyone simultaneously awakes with a jolt. Mykael looks down at Archival and Theaton at Zork, understandingly. It is still dark out but there is blue on the eastern horizon.
Despite the early hours, there is a knock at the door of the room shared by Mykael and Archival. The trapper stands there with ink, quill and parchment. "I heard you wake so I thought I could get your message as early as possible."
Dividing the loot, Theaton and Zork get 949.02 gold and Archival and Mykael get 75.16 gold with 229.1 left in the fund. Zork I think you may have neglected to pay 12 for the cold iron sickle and didn't record the item on your sheet either.
Remember that in Pathfinder platinum, gold, silver and copper convert down from 1 coin to 10 coins in that order.
Mykael will ask the bandits their names before they are sent to their respective room, and addressing each by name he says to them, “[Name] it is important that you understand the sacrifice that Archival and I have made to keep you alive and your fingers attached. If you attempt to leave without repaying your debt and return to the life of banditry I will personally see to it that you are not spared a second time. You are being granted an opportunity at redemption, don’t mess it up. Furthermore, if I return and discover that either of you have in any way continued a life of crime or are doing anything to aid or abet the bandits in the area I will cease paying for your lodging and I will not intervene on any punishment you may received; is this understood?”
Mykael dictates a message to the trapper explaining that he has a charter and that in the course of attempting to fulfill the charter he came across the armor and the sword held within the stash of a group of bandits. In the message Mykael describes the items and the symbol they possess leading him to believe that the items belong to the Church of Iomede or to one of its adherents. He explains his desire to serve Iomede and suggests that he went through a trial by combat so to speak to ensure the items did not fall into the hands of one who is not among her church. He requests that the church send someone to Oleg’s to settle the matter and if possible to discuss and give guidance on another matter.
“How much do I owe you for delivery of this message?” Mykael asks the trapper as he produces his coin purse.
