The Second says...

Out of Character: I updated my character sheet thanks.

When chance permits Zork will visit Oleg to inquire of him of a trained horse or animal capable of combat. Zork prefers a horse. He has only 1001 gold pieces and he will not want to go near that figure. He also pays his 1 gold piece for the night.

Later he will find out what's cooking in the party.

When the morning arrives Theaton will break his fast before getting his horse ready and checking out his supplies and weapons. He will check to see that everyone is up and getting ready to head back out.

While Mykael speaks to the two bandits, Archival nods his agreement and waits for the warrior to finish. "We have put our trust in you and placed our names on the line. Please try your best to live up to the potential we see in you. You men were honest and forthright with us. If you maintain your law abiding status, Mykael and I will find a way to reward your change of character."

"I am going to give you my personal symbol on your foreheads, just like the one on my own forehead, as I mentioned to Kesten earlier. It will not hurt." Stepping forward to each of the men, Archival touches their foreheads in turn and his arcane mark appears on them.

Sunday, 12 Desnus

Archival glances at Mykael, eyes wide after the trapper leaves, "Well I had a hard night's sleep." Archival recollects his dream in detail to Mykael and ponders, "I wonder what it means..."

Out of Character: I was looking at my notes and noticed I never rolled for starting wealth. I just used the money from my trait. I added the average starting wealth for a Summoner to my character sheet in gems (That's what I did for the majority of my remaining wealth at the start of the game too). Is that okay?

The arcane mark I placed upon the men gradually fades in about a month. I'm sure we'll be back every few weeks so refreshing it shouldn't be an issue until they have fulfilled their debt.

I would like to make a Diplomacy check to hopefully convince the men to be honest and fulfill their punishment with dignity.

Game Master says...

"Burke, son of Olaf," The younger man says. "I am forever in your debt, thank you for sparing me."
The other is only slightly older, looking about 30 years old. "I am Piter Agrioli. I will make up for my misdeeds and will never cross you. I will tell everyone of your mercy."

Mykael's message costs 8 gold; 4 for the horse and 4 for the rider. (I multiplied the 2 copper per mile cost by 20 miles instead of 200 miles before, sorry.)

When Zork asks for a horse, Oleg says, "I have just the thing," As he claps his hands together. "I knew someone among you would be interested."

He leads Zork to the full stable and puts his hand on a muscly black haired horse. "Darklight here is a heavy warhorse. He was raised nearby in Restov by the best combat trainers. He will cost 300 gold pieces, and then the military saddle, bit and bridle will cost another 22. Saddlebags are also available for 4 gold."

"Of course, the light horses of unknown breeding are still available for only 75, saddle included. But they are not as fine specimens as Darklight."

Theaton checks everybody's gear, happy that it's all well maintained and rations and ammunition are restocked. Will you be continuing your explorations to the west? That is where you were but you didn't spend the time to fully explore the area, choosing to go directly in a line to the camp, the cairn and Oleg's.

Out of Character: Txtrpg, Zork doesn't have to pay for a room after all the help Oleg received. That's just the cost of running the makeshift jail.

Diarmadhim, adding the start wealth to gems is okay, which reminds me, how much was the red rhodochrosite gem you offered to the fey?
Oh, and can I just confirm if Caelum vanishes when Archival sleeps?

Theaton will lead them back to the west so we can cover the areas we have over looked. He will tell the others of the dream he had and if any of them have any thoughts on it.

Ignoble says...

Mykael listens to Archival explain his dream and nods as it is explained to him "That is strange as I had the exact same dream" He says after Archival concludes his description, "Very curious. Maybe, if the temple sends someone regarding the armor and the sword, they may be able to advise us on this dream as well. In the meantime, I imagine Theaton is going to want to be on the way as soon as possible. We should get ready."

Thinking that it would be best if he were not the only one in the party on foot Mykael requests one of the 75gp light horses, lest he slow the entire party down. He would want to purchase a saddle bag as well. After paying for these things Mykael holds his coin purse in his hand and bounces it up and down slightly "Weighing" It while shaking his head "How quickly it loses it's weight" He says with a smirk and a look to the others "And I am not yet done lightening the load. I would like to stop by that tree where Theaton left his offering so that I might do the same. Maybe get these blasted fey to leave me alone?"

Mykael also confirms with Theaton that he and Archival shared the same dream, and shares that the knowledge that they have all had the same dream is vexing to him. "It's a bad omen for sure, but we must carry on and not allow it to paralyze us with doubt and uncertainty." He will inventory his equipment and maintain his gear before they head out, making sure that his sword is sharp and doing his best to mend any holes or tears he finds in his pack and clothes.

The Second says...

In Character: Zork gladly pays and asks, "What about armor and food?" Zork then tries to befriend the horse and learns of her abilities and tricks.

Out of Character: Do I need a handle animal roll here? I put it anyway. I will just deduct 299 for the horse then, thanks, but I may need to deduct more if there is armor and food available.

Zork II Results:
  • Handle animal on D20 (+1): 19 (1 roll)

Game Master says...

Zork's horse responds well to his new master (I think a stallion is more reasonable, but I could change it to a mare). Darklight nuzzles Zork when pet and responds quickly to the usual commands.

Conversely, Mykael's horse seems to ignore the things it is ordered to do except for the most basic kick to start it moving and turning. Oleg shrugs and says, "The other horses are all just like that. You should find a trainer when you have the time."

Oleg first asks "I don't have any barding for the horse but can order it in... Oh! Armour for you!" He can offer a chain shirt (Which Zork has) or a full suit of chainmail that can fit anyone, but a breastplate or heavy armour has to be fitted. After taking measurements, the armour could be at the trading post in 4 to 6 days.

Out of Character: Darklight is a Heavy Horse and has the same statistics, except it is not Docile, so the hoof attacks should be +5 to hit, not +0. As it is combat trained, it know the following Tricks: attack, come, defend, down, guard, and heel. These tricks take a DC 10 Handle Animal check, but tricks it doesn't know take a DC 25 to command it. By default it will attack enemies you attack.
Also, if you wish, you can swap out its usual two feats, Endurance and Run for other ones. And don't forget the saddle, bit and bridle cost, unless you choose to ride bareback.

Mykael's unnamed horse is a light horse knowing no tricks. But thanks to the available choices, you can also choose the feats you want.

The party leave the post and the warm day passes pleasantly. After your lunch break you enter the forest; everybody being mounted seems to have really sped up travel.

You are still 10 minutes from reaching the fey nest when you come across a man laden with furs setting up a pit trap. However this hunter is conscientious enough to leave flags signifying the locations of his traps and are easily avoided.
He hails you and starts with a hoarse voice, "Hunting for wolves. Been hearing them for two days. You?"
