Oh they are so cute. I wish I could be there to give them a big hug and tell them its alright. How cruel of the government to treat these dogs this way!
VA tightens oversight of medical experiments on dogs after surgery failures, canine deaths. The lapses in medical research projects on dogs at a VA in Virginia helped fuel a push in Congress to cut off money for such experiments nationwide. Some of the experiments, defended by some medical research experts, include sawing the top of the skulls of Beagle puppies and inducing heart attacks in other dogs. Ref. USAToday.
I'm so torn by this. First, because these poor dogs are defenseless and what they go through is terrible. They do have feelings and they feel pain. But some of the research they use animals for is critical in developing cures for diseases and maladies and also for helping wounded soldiers on the battlefield. But I'd have to say I'm probably tilting towards not using the dogs and figuring out another way to do the research.
Who cares about what diseases we can cure, how can we justify making these dogs suffer days, months and years for humans. If some alien landed on this earth and said they were taking humans to do experiments on so they can find a cure for some people on a distant planet would we accept that?
