Johnathan's Dungeons & Dragons 3.5 - The Artifacts Of Power - Page 29

Feyra looks Charles with a sad look as she sighs. She procceeds to close the lid with the little strenght she has.

"Left behind again huh..."

She sits down waiting for her comrades stand by.

Out of Character: That would mean Feyra stays out? She could always painstakingly close herself inside as well, if she so wishes.

In Character: As Charles goes in, the area is lit by his torch. Expecting the fall only causes 1 point on non-lethal damage to Charles. He's next to Basmet.

The two can see around clearly now - a room beautifully decorated with colored hieroglyphics similar to those in the Grand Gallery, etched on the walls around them. The room itself is small and square, with a doorway on its one side, facing the heroes; as if this room is just a passageway to a further, more important part of the secret compartment of the pyramid!

(There was no mention of this part of the pyramid in the scripture that was studied.)

"We can't just leave her up there," Basmet says. "Why didn't we think this through better? Hopefully there is some way to open it from this side."

She starts reading the hieroglyphs, searching for clues about the trap, or the function of this part of the pyramid.

Out of Character: Very well!

In Character: The walls seem to depict a small story arc, starting from left to right. Ordinary people, citizens of Egypt, facing right kneel before a godly figure that seems to be the Pharaoh, who is sitting on a grand throne pointing to the right.

To his right lies a grand Pyramid that is being built by workers. There seem to be several small holes in the pyramid. A river flows next to the pyramid and goes through a dam that seems connected to the pyramid's structure.

Further to the right, an extremely tall figure of a woman (Far taller than the pyramid) with a five-pointed star above her head reaches her hand out, as a beam of light connects one of the holes of the pyramid with the star above her head.

A knowledge (Religion) is required to identify the female figure.

Continuing to the second wall, a very detailed depiction of fertile farmlands, worked by happy-looking farmers takes the entire side. Some of the farmers are even resting and drinking or eating. Some of them have their hands up to the sky.

The third wall is almost empty of paintings such as the previous, but two columns of hieroglyphics, on the left and right side of the depictions in the middle, write the following in text:

Eternal glory and salvation to those who wish to protect.

Restless death to those with malicious hearts.

The picture carved and painted in the middle shows a vague figure of a man on the Pharaoh's throne. His characteristics are not clearly depicted. There has been a lot of attention given to the detail of his headgear, however. A Nemes Headdress rests on the head of the man.

Originating from his left side, rays of life-giving energy seem to flow towards his left frame, past the first message (As written above).

From his right side, plant-blighting rays go past the second message and into the fourth wall-panel.

This fourth wall shows the same scenery as the second one; farmers and farmlands. But people are suffering or dead, scattered here and there, as everything is plagued and black.

Between the feet of the sitting man on the third panel, at the bottom of the throne, lies the opening to the next room.

There are no mentions of the trap or the function of the room here for Basmet, though.

If you wish to receive insight on the information here, besides the Knowledge check for the deity depicted in the first panel, you can do that by rolling a d12 and adding your intelligence modifier to it, for me. (For Feyra: the headband bonus applies here too ofc)

D12: 2+1 = 3

"I would not touch that wall," Warns Basmet, pointing to the wall depicting death. "Lest the same fate befall you."

Out of Character: Oh, she can? And sorry for the late reply. Had internet problems.

In Character: Feyra opens the lid as she gets in there trying to close the lid above her hoping for it to work.

If she gets sucessfuly down she will first stand up cleaning the dust from her clothing as she will ask her comrades.

"Is everyone ok? Did you find anything?"

As after checking everyone is ok, she procceeds to take a look around observing the walls and after that, she tries to search for any sign of dragging on the floor or footsteps except of her comrade's.

At Kamsans: You mixed up the Knowledge check with the d12 but that matters not. Feel free to look up Sopdet in Wikipedia (It's a short page), to learn more about her. Also, the only thing that's particularly interesting is the headdress of the man on the throne, which is very detailed. It's made as if whoever carved the painting wanted to attract the view of any visitor there.

There's just the door ahead of the heroes, nothing else was found while searching.
