The Zero Theorem (Hover)
A computer hacker whose goal is to discover the reason for human existence continually finds his work interrupted thanks to the Management; namely, they send a teenager and lusty love interest to distract him
The Zero Theorem is a mind game movie. It got rave reviews online but I'm wondering for what? If you will like to know what it might be like to live in the mind of someone that seems to have Asperger's then this is it. The main character is a high functioning savant who does not like to be touched and has difficulties in communicating with people. There are some brief appearances by Matt Damon who clears some things up but not all. The movie by its nature is true - it shows how marketing something can make people believe but at the same time why through the eyes of Qohen. Thoughts for those who have seen it?
I just finished watching this film and yes, the first thing that came to my mind is that the main character has Aspergers and all the challenges associated with the condition.
I thought the whole story line is swarmed by religious connotations and clearly sending a message at the end.
Qohen(A believer) has been waiting for a phone call from some sort of supreme being (God) that would tell him the purpose of life and his mission here on earth but when he discovers that he has been waiting all his life in vain and that such being (God) does not exist but is only on "his" Mind, it causes Qohen to lose it (Apostasy/loss of faith).
The management (Church institution/leaders) check his every move ensuring that he continues believing (Strict religious rules, do not study anything outside X or Y book, warnings, etc) and has strict control over who he talks to, what he does and what he believes.
The rest of people around him are non-believers. Finally at the end, when he discovers the truth about the phone call, he smiles for the first time and feels completely in control (He can even move the sun!) and "Liberated" In his own paradise where for the first time he can enjoy life.
