LEDs can provide a viable lighting alternative
Although the initial investment for LED lighting is significant ($50 per bulb, compared with $8-$12 for a fluorescent bulb), the payoff in switching to green lighting can be significant to not only individual homes, but also large companies. A business with 1,000 bulbs could save as much as $10,000 a year on energy costs and approximately $90,000 over the lifetime of the bulbs, according to Schumer.

The bulbs are not even in Canada yet and the strip led lights are way to expensive to validate using other then in heat sensitive areas.
One spot I would strongly recommend changing them is in the case of metal halide under counter lights. Big reason here is the people leave them on for a great amount of time and they cause huge amounts of heat. I have seen many times where they actually are scorching the cabinet materials behind the light fixtures. So this is a be ware if you have them and check on them occasionally.
I am unsure of the lighting quality for detail work but might be ok for general task lighting.
