Mormon Fast Offering

How Much Fast Offering Should One Pay?

How do you define "generous" when it comes to paying your fast offering?

I believe the answer is between you and god, however I usually try to give as much as I can reasonably spare.

Generous means to me more than just the amount of money you would have used in the two meals.

5% is what is required. But at the time I became a member that was about $5.00 per meal so $5 x 2 =$10.00 Min. But I choose to pay fast off every week. I tend to pay more than that though.

The brethren never put a dollar figure to it. Just the cost of 2 meals. But also said that if you are in a position to pay more then do so. We are "lucky" ? That we are not being asked to live the law of consecration. So my take is give what you can to lift the down and out and the poor.

Why are we "lucky" because we don't live the law of consecration? I wouldn't mind at all but again, I am not rich.

Comments: There is never a dollar amount. The recommend is the cost of the 2 meals you skip for your fast, but it really is between you and the Lord. If you feel what you give is right, then that is OK. The difference between tithing & offerings is that you will not be more blessed by paying more tithing, but you will be by paying more offerings

The equivalent of the cost of two meals is a minimum amount that we should give. It all started because the early, Utah pioneers didn't really have anything to spare in order to help the poor, so Brigham Young asked the members of the Church to fast for two meals each month and give the equivalent of those two meals in fast offerings to help the poor. Nowadays, most of us can afford to give more than that and should. President Marion G. Romney said that we should give 'till it hurts. For some of us, that's not very much, but it's the "widow's mite." For others, like Brother Huntsman, that would be a lot of money.
