Disturbing Disney Billboard
Not believing my eyes, and on an assignment that touched on images of Westerners in the Chinese consumer's imagination, I snapped a photo: See HERE (scroll down). McTeague passed on commenting and forwarded the image to Gary Foster, a spokesman for Disney's consumer-products division. He called me from a business trip (to China) to disavow the ad.
I think the ad is ok as it is not intended to be offensive but rather to promote buying disney things. Just because she is in a bra and panties makes it no different then a catalog advertising girls bras and panties with a model in a pair of them. As long as no nudity or more revealing clothing there is nothing wrong with this. Most Bikinis girls wear provide just as much coverage. Who says this is not a bikini she is wearing in the first place.
You can advertise unddies without having to put the girl there wearing them! There are too many perverts out there for this kind of thing especially from Disney. It's good that they acknowledge that it is not what they would do though.
