Obama Distances Himself From Planned Parenthood Sex Trafficking Scandal

In a weekend interview with a local television station in Virginia, President Barack Obama was forced to answer a question concerning the national scandal surrounding Planned Parenthood.
The scandal has Planned Parenthood centers in Virginia and three other places - New Jersey, New York, and the District of Columbia - actively helping to arrange for abortions and STD testing for undercover investigators who pose as operators of a sex trafficking ring. The Planned Parenthood staff not only show no concern about he illegal and anti-woman activities, they help the sex trafficking operators avoid further scrutiny and give them advice for how to get the girls back out on the street.

"There's a conservative group that went into Planned Parenthood with video cameras and taped what appeared to be Planned Parenthood workers turning a blind eye to sex trafficking," the NBC 12 interviewer began in the late Friday interview. "Republicans here in Washington have turned this into a call for you and for other leaders in Washington to strip Planned Parenthood's funding from the federal government. Do you think this video should be a reason to look at Planned Parenthood funding? Do you think it's a setup? How would you react to that?"

Obama responded initially by trying to deflect the issue from Planned Parenthood to the economy:

"Well, you know, I will tell you, um, the vast majority of people right now, uh, what they"re thinking about are jobs, the economy, um, and I think that sometimes these issues get manufactured and they a lot of attention on the blogosphere. But what folks that I talk to have been asking is: How is the economy going to be doing? Are jobs going to be created? Are businesses going to be located here in the United States?"

Eventually, Obama got around to responding directly to the question. Ref. Source 9

Planned Parenthood Falsely Uses Mammograms to Defend Tax-Funding

Reeling from a vote in the House of Representatives that would deny any and all taxpayer funding, the Planned Parenthood abortion business is turning to its non-abortion 'services" to defend the need for the government dole.

However, it turns out that, in one case, when it comes to mammograms, Planned Parenthood doesn't actually provide the service.

On February 21, Planned Parenthood CEO Cecile Richards joined the talk show of pro-abortion activist Joy Behar and defended Planned Parenthood against the legislation seeking to de-fund it.

"If this bill ever becomes law, millions of women in this country are going to lose their health care access, not to abortion services, to basic family planning - you know, mammograms, cancer screenings, cervical cancer," she said.

But pro-life blogger Jill Stanek did some checking and found out Planned Parenthood doesn't do mammograms.

"The fact is not one Planned Parenthood in America performs mammograms. All Planned Parenthoods do are refer for mammograms," she said. "So while Richards was technically correct to add the word "access" before citing mammograms as a service Planned Parenthood provides, I guarantee no one understood her to say anything other than Planned Parenthood performs mammograms, when actually all Planned Parenthood does is merely write down the name of a place to go for mammograms." Ref. Obama Would Veto Spending Bill De-Funding Planned Parenthood

Obama President Barack Obama would veto the House-approved long-term spending bill for the federal government that contains the Pence Amendment, a measure that would de-fund the Planned Parenthood abortion business. Because of that provision and other pro-life riders that stop abortion funding globally and in the District of Columbia, the Washington Times indicates "Obama has issued a veto threat on that bill, saying House Republicans" cuts are unacceptable."

"Senate Democrats said the non-spending provisions of the bill - such as restrictions on Planned Parenthood and on Obama administration rules and regulations - will also have to be struck," the Times continues.

That is the current impasse over the federal spending legislation - where House Republicans have adopted a budget-cutting bill with pro-life provisions and where Senate Democrats have not put forward their own legislation whereby pro-life advocates could either negotiate for the pro-life provisions or try to pass amendments to the Senate bill.

Obama issued a statement this week calling for such negotiations: "I"m calling on Democratic and Republican leaders of Congress to begin meeting immediately with the vice president, my chief of staff and budget director so we can find common ground on a budget that makes sure we are living within our means."

But pro-life Speaker John Boehner says no formal invitation has been extended and Senate Democrats have yet to write a spending bill. Ref. Source 5

Pro-Life Groups Keep Pressing for Planned Parenthood De-Funding

Sen. Chuck Schumer, the top Senate Democrat interfacing with the media on the media on budget negotiations, says House and Senate leaders are close to getting a final agreement. But pro-life groups hope the agreement includes language de-funding Planned Parenthood.

Schumer said Friday on MSNBC's "Morning Joe," program that Senate Democrats and House Republicans have made 'some progress" on talks concerning a long-term continuing resolution - a bill that would fund the federal government through most of the rest of the year. Unless the Pence Amendment is added to the bill - as it was in a House long-term bill the Senate rejected weeks ago - the Planned Parenthood abortion business will continue to get millions in federal taxpayer dollars.

Rep. Eric Cantor, a Virginia Republican who is the House majority leader, called Schumer's comments "completely farfetched." He said the White House and Democratic leaders are "refusing to offer any sort of serious plan."

Both sides have two weeks until a short-term CR expires and the government is left without any funding. Schumer said the sticking point on the negotiations is where the budget cuts will come from, though he said it was a "good sign" that the shot-term bill did not contain the Planned Parenthood de-funding language or pro-life riders that stop abortion funding and sending taxpayer money to pro-abortion groups in other instances.

Representatives of leading pro-life groups say they are working overtime to urge members of the House and Senate to support the Pence Amendment and include it and the pro-life riders in the final long-term bill.

"The American people are growing sick and tired of Congress funding the government just a few weeks at a time with short-term Continuing Resolution bills. It appears more and more likely every single day that the next Continuing Resolution considered by Congress will be the very last for the rest of the fiscal year," Susan B. Anthony List president Marjorie Dannenfelser says. "The question is - will the final Continuing Resolution bill defund Planned Parenthood? Or will America's abortion giant continue to receive hundreds of millions of dollars in taxpayer funding?" Ref. Source 2

Pro-Abortion Senators Vow to Keep Funding Planned Parenthood

group of 41 pro-abortion members of the Senate have vowed they will do everything they can to keep taxpayer money flowing from the federal government to the Planned Parenthood abortion business.

Led by pro-abortion stalwart Barbara Boxer, who is deceiving voters into thinking Planned Parenthood does mammograms and that should justify giving it federal funds, the group of 41 outlined their support for taxpayer funding in a new letter to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, the top Democrat, and GOP leader Mitch McConnell, who is pro-life.

The group includes thirty-nine Democratic senators and two Independents, pro-abortion Sens. Joe Lieberman of Connecticut and Bernie Sanders of Vermont. The number of lawmakers on board - and Reid would likely vote with them - is enough to filibuster any legislation containing the Pence Amendment that funds Planned Parenthood. House Republicans have already sent the Senate one bill de-funding the abortion business and Democrats mounted enough support to defeat the measure.

The letter, according to a report in The Hill, asked Reid and McConnell to 'stand with us against extreme proposals by some members of the House to eliminate support for women's health and family planning programs and providers that service millions of women and families."

The abortion advocates said they would "oppose the provision in the House-passed continuing resolution that cuts Planned Parenthood health centers off from federal funds used to provide cancer screenings, birth control and other preventative health care services to three million Americans every year." Ref. Indiana Will Defy Obama Admin Order to Not De-Fund Planned Parenthood

State officials in Indiana say they will defy the decision by the Obama administration asking it to not proceed with implementing a new pro-life state law that would revoke taxpayer funding for the Planned Parenthood abortion business.

Yesterday, the top Medicaid official in the Obama administration denied Indiana's use of its new state law that would deny millions in taxpayer dollars to the Indiana affiliate of the nation's largest abortion business.

Governor Mitch Daniels signed the law, which would cut off anywhere from $2 million to $3 million the Planned Parenthood abortion business receives in federal funds via the Indiana government through Medicaid. Daniels said that "any organization affected by this provision can resume receiving taxpayer dollars immediately by ceasing or separating its operations that perform abortions."

However, the Obama administration told the state it can't implement the new law, with Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services Administrator Donald Berwick denying a request to deny funds saying the federal Medicaid law stipulates that states can't exclude providers based on the services they provide.

But Marcus Barlow, a spokesman for Indiana's Family and Social Services Administration, told National Journal, "The way the law was written, it went into effect the moment the governor signed it. We were just advised by our lawyers that we should continue to enforce Indiana law."

Berwick told the National Journal, "We fully expect Indiana to comply with the law," in response to the comments from Barlow.

Planned Parenthood has sued Indiana over the new law and U.S. District Judge Tanya Walton Pratt, who has said she would rule by July 1, is expected to hold a hearing Monday on the law. Ref. Source 6

Planned Parenthood Abortion Biz Responds to Live Action Expose"

The Planned Parenthood abortion business has responded to a new expose" video from Live Action showing its staffers admitting it doesn't need taxpayer funding because legitimate medical centers offer the same kind of health care.

Undercover phone calls released yesterday show Planned Parenthood of Indiana abortion business staffers admitting that they are not the only source of women's health care for women on Medicaid, even though denying women heath care has become the thrust of its argument against losing taxpayer funds.

One reason Planned gives in a new response for why it needs taxpayer funding is that it offers different services from other Medicaid providers. However, federally-funded non-abortion health care clinics offer all of the services Planned Parenthood does, and more, with the exception of abortions. That makes it appear Planned Parenthood is saying it needs state taxpayer funding in Indiana because it does abortions.

Planned Parenthood's new statement says: "We focused on helping our patients - even those posing as "patients" - to find reproductive health care during the short period of time we were unable to provide services covered by Medicaid. We maintain, as we"ve said all along, that just because there are other providers does not mean they offer the same patient-friendly hours, are accepting new Medicaid patients or offer the same services that PPIN offers."

Live Action president Lila Rose, in an email to LifeNews, says the video showing Planned Parenthood deceiving the public and lawmakers into believing the abortion business is vital to women's health is accurate. Rose said there are 800 other facilities in Indiana that take Medicaid, provide the same services, and most likely offer those patient-friendly hours everyone reportedly loves at Planned Parenthood. Planned Parenthood Officially Loses $335K Grant in Tennessee

The de-funding of the Planned Parenthood abortion business in Nashville, Tennessee became official on Friday as the state shifted the funds to the city's health department.

As North Carolina, Indiana, Kansas and Wisconsin became the nucleolus of states to de-fund or cut Planned Parenthood funding, Tennessee joined them as Nashville's public health department agreed earlier this month to accept all available family planning funds and to provide the required services to targeted populations. As a result, 94 of 95 Tennessee counties now accept all available Title X funds from the state Department of Health and provide the required birth control services themselves rather than forcing taxpayers to fund the nation's biggest abortion business.

In Nashviile, the Davidson County health department took over the $335,000 federal grant that used to go to Planned Parenthood for family planning. On Friday, the funds were officially diverted.

Jeff Teague, president and CEO of Planned Parenthood of Middle and East Tennessee, tried to put a good face on the news in an interview with the Tennessean.

"One of the things that's been really interesting about this whole experience is that it has been a wonderful opportunity to educate," Teague said. "In a real weird, perverse way, it's helped people learn more about what Planned Parenthood does." Ref. Source 7
