I think that is one of the big things that keeps people where they are, their profiles. Only if you are terribly disgruntled with everyone in the community then you're likely to keep on staying just because it's convenient.

Wow, on the list of bad ideas this is rather high. All of the security risks aside, this would serve to make life easier for cons and scripters. To think, one could place an ad in a profile and it will filter through to several networks.

Well we are on a good online community right now. Communities have their place but I do not make it the center of my browsing experience. I'm actually a member of many social networks with here being one of many that I check on now and again. I think some people become too engrossed in it and then they forget the rest of the world wide web out there or even real life.

It's funner to talk to people to pass the time online, instead of doing actual work on the computer

I only really join communities like these to find some good conversations while I have downtime at work.

I join in some communities to enjoy opinions of others from around the world or in my particular fields. It is good to have a place to go to talk shop or just to gab. Sometimes the distance that separate people makes it hard to talk shop. Having a place on line brings everyone together in a common loop to get good ideas. Besides I do not post my real name on any community board.
