James Brady

Former White House press secretary James Brady, who was severely wounded in a 1981 assassination attempt on President Ronald Reagan, has died, the White House said today. Brady was 73.

Brady was partially paralyzed in the shooting in Washington. He later became one of the nation's most prominent gun-control advocates. Ref. CNN

The death of James Brady has been ruled a homicide resulting from John Hinckley Jr.'s 1981 attempted assassination of President Ronald Reagan, the Virginia Medical Examiner ruled Friday. Hinckley, who was found not guilty by reason of insanity for the shooting that left Brady partially paralyzed, could be charged with murder. Ref. USAToday

John Hinckley won't face charges in the death of former President Ronald Reagan's press secretary James Brady whose death last summer was ruled a homicide, U.S. Attorney Ron Machen's office announced.

Brady was shot in the head during Hinckley's 1981 attempt to assassinate Reagan. Hinckley faced charges related to Brady's shooting during his 1982 trial in which he was found not guilty by reason of insanity. Ref. CNN
