Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar vs. Opposition Leader Dr Keith Rowley

PRIME Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar has agreed to a debate with Opposition Leader Dr Keith Rowley. Chief executive officer of the Trinidad and Tobago Debates Commission (TTDC), Catherine Kumar, made the disclosure yesterday following a workshop for journalists hosted by the Commission, the United States Embassy and the Trinidad and Tobago Broadcasters and Publishers’ Association (TTPBA) at the Embassy’s Briar Place office. The biggest challenge facing the TTDC at this time for “The Leaders’ Debate” lies in finding a moderator who is agreeable to all, Kumar said. Ref. Source 8

So now that Rowley has been suspended from Parliament, the PNM had an emergency meeting and according to C News the PNM General Council has instructed all MPs to stay away from Parliament until the suspension of Rowley is withdrawn or rescinded.

The way this pre-election environment going I doubt there will be any real winners whenever the election called. No one knows what is truth and what is lie anymore.

That was a big political move to take Rowley out of parliament and by extension the whole PNM, but even if Rowley was out I thought the rest of opposition MPs should have stayed to at least counter. I understand the symbolic nature of staying away one or two times but not all the time.

I wouldn't be surprised if they do that. Every other country has their election day established but T&T has to make a bacchanal out of it.

From what the PM said in a town meeting yesterday we might not see elections until Christmas! She said she will fulfill her full term which is until the 17th September, 2015 and then after that she has 3 months to have an election so it could be anytime AFTER 17th September, not before. She did say when parliament is dissolved in June she will give the date, not before.

Having it near Christmas is a good thing for the government because people will be too merry and will not be focusing on anything negative.
