Regardless of ones views on animal cruelty I do not believe "Mother Nature" is Sentient enough to seek retaliation. But apart from that, the people of China need our prayers if we are religious and at least our sympathy if we are not.

The death of thousands should not be a sounding board for Animal rights arguments. It does not further the Animal rights agenda and it seems eerily reminiscent of the PETA add that showed Holocaust victims and compared their terrible situation to the killing of chickens for food.
