Dash Of Salt To Freshwater Aquarium

Comments: I was told that by adding a dash of salt to 50 gallon freshwater aquarium I can kill the bacteria that might be harming the fish without affecting the fish, just wondering if there is any truth to that?
There are some theorectical benefits to adding salt but there are also negatives. Also, remember that the salt does not evaporate and will only be removed with water changes, so you really need to be measureing the pH and specific gravity to ensure you arent over doing it. Honestly, making sure you do regular water changes and removing waste from your fresh water aquarium is better than salt.
But if you do decide to use salt, make sure it has no iodine in it.
I wouldn't be risking it!
Not sure whether it works or not..but it's too late if it doesn't and it kills your fish! I'd be going for a separate product that kills the bacteria without harming your fish.
It's been a while since I've kept fish, but I remember how hard it was to keep the fish maintained alright when tank cleaning and topping up with water to keep it at just the right temperature to keep all the fish safe.
