Thanks to one of our busiest posters KNtoran the Idea of turtles soup is now a lingering thought in the back of my mind. It was either him or that Caribbean cook book I keep passing over turtle soup when I cook up some of the Indian dishes I like.

So I thought easy to do some nice bloody meat and a nice baited hook no problem right. I was so very wrong it seems our beloved Canadian Ministry of environment team has deemed them worth protecting some what. So not only is there a season mid July to October but you can not use a hook they must be live captured! One is allowed two a day max 5 in possession. Bottled Turtle kinda makes sense given how one has to prepare it.

So how do you catch them in Ontario A box or funnel trap....this should slow thing down a tad.

I knew some used to put hooks on a board then the turtle went for the meat at top and would get stuck. I need a valid fishing license to catch them but the jurisdiction falls under the hunting guide for season and how to catch them. Makes sense since you are trapping in reality. Just glad I do not need a hunting license.
