Rice, Flour Or Potatoes

Often when there is a hunger crisis the first things distributed are flour, rice and potatoes. If you were given only ONE of the following food items to eat by itself for the next month which would you choose? Why? Would knowing that you cannot add any condiments or sauces to it change your selection? Could you cope on such a diet for so long?

I chose potato because even without adding condiments it isn't as bland as plain flour - lipsrsealed.gif It can be boiled, baked, fried or even eaten raw.
Rice is okay ~ but it is steamed and it really isn't as versitle as potatoes.

I chose rice.

I wouldn't know what to do with flour, so with that I would starve.

Potatos are more work than rice. I love potatoes but not without butter and milk to mash them or lots of butter if just boiled or baked.

Rice, I can enjoy without butter.

I would definitely chose potatoes. Flour is useless to me (I don't know even if it's possible to make something just with flour) and rice can be used only in one way - boiled. On a strict boiled rice diet, you'll become costive in a few days. On the other hand, I quite like potatoes. In fact, mashed potatoes is one of my favorite meals, but I eat them in any form. When I was a kid I use to eat them like apples (of course I peeled them wink.gif ).

I would most probably choose flour. You can bake, boil, fry, and roast flour. You do not need as much water to cook it as rice or potatoes. Once cooked it can last for days in room temperature unlike rice and potatoes. It can also be used for other things besides food, but I will not get into that here. Unlike potatoes which is bulky and may not last, flour can last like rice and can be stored easily.

I think it would have to be rice.... growing up with a spanish family, all we've eaten is rice on top of rice. laugh.gif But honestly, I can eat plain rice without a problem, and it would seem the easiest to prepare.

It would definitely have to be potatoes, rice wouldn't be a bad second choice but it would be very bland by itself, whereas, potatoes can be very filling, and even on their own wouldn't be that bad!

I don't know how anybody could manage on flour alone, especially if there is nothing to add to it!

Seeing as none of these would be edible without water I will assume water is included to boil with and without water to drink one wouldn't survive either, so I will assume water is readily available. Seeing as water is readily available I would choose flour because it likely would not be too much to ask for yeast to make bread. Seeing as yeast is a living organism when making the bread. I would assume the little animals remain within the bread. Possibly providing protein. Seeing as we have no fish to go with our rice that negates that choice because it is not a complete meal without the fish. So my hope would be in that I would have yeast and that it would provide me nutrition in the form of protein. I don't believe survival from rice or potatoes would be as common as from bread.
