Alaskan Real Estate
Is buying a home in Alaska an easy or difficult undertaking?
It is not that much different that any place else. In the major populated areas of the state the housing market is stronger than the rest of the United States. Buying a house in some of the smaller villages could be challenging due to availability. You also want to keep resale in mind. Anchorage, Mat-Su (the Valley North of Anchorage) and Fairbanks have larger populations and strong economies. Other areas of the state could take 2-3 years when it comes time to sell.
Depending on where you buy it could be easier than most places due to less restrictions. As with any real estate transaction "buyer beware" is important. Due to a tradition of loose regulations and zoning you really need to take a close look at a property before making the final purchase. Be sure to have a qualified inspector pass off on it before signing the final contract.
