'Two-thirds of judges must be black'
Two-thirds of judges and magistrates must ultimately be black in order to reflect the country's racial demographics, new justice department director-general Menzi Simelani said on Wednesday. Referring to a lack of female and black judges, he said: "There is a clear misrepresentation".

I think that the judges in any country should be an equal representation of the populace. But I think that it should be an equal representation of each section of the country. Say you have nine judges, you have one third of the country white, black, and hispanic. Then three judges should be white, three black, and three hispanic. That ensures complete equality amongst the races.
Well, this article speaks excatly what the problem in the new South Africa is. In te apartheid years, whites were the most educated, and blacks were the least. And now that South Africa has majority rule, education and jobs have become a decliate issue. What South Africa needs now is to show the majority of the country the value of education. Then you will have less crime, more jobs and more black lawyers.
I wonder when will be the day that it does not matter what race you are, you are assure you will get a fair trial. As Yellowknife pointed out, I think the problem in South Africa particularly right now is Education (in all levels, formal and non-formal). I also think that even though South Africa no longer has the apartheid "law", exists still the mentality of some people who just do not want to let it go.

LDS Forever, the apartheid mentality exists only in the older generation. Think about it, the Depression Era generation in my country is very frugal. And everyone knows that today's generation of Americans,no offense,is a bit greedy and selfish.
The point of the analogy is that only the older people have the apartheid mentality. The teenage South Africans of today are very liberal. These days, I hear everyone has multiracial friends, girlfriends or even wives. But really to me, it does not matter what race you are. Aren't all 6.5 billion humans on the planet, all humans? Besides, it's more fun knowing people from other races and cultures anyway.
