Stealing Gas

Gas Thieves

With the price of gas hitting a national average of $3.72 a gallon today, some drivers are going to extreme -- and sometimes illegal -- measures to fill up their tanks. There are the old school methods of siphoning off gas or driving away from the station before paying. Tonight, ABC's John Donvan investigates how a new generation of gas thieves is preying on innocent consumers in a "Sign of the Times."

Gas Stealing

Here in Alaska ours just hit $3.86 in the Matanuska Valley. It has been steadily increasing and although I have not heard of anybody stealing this kind of fuel I know that there have been many cases of people stealing heating oil since the prices have sky rocketed!

Stealing Gas History & Civil Business Politics

As gas prices continue to work upwards less people will be able to afford their little trips. They will start to steal more and more gas causing it to be harder to get for all of us honest people. The people who are going to be hurt the most are those who are barely scrapping by as it is now

Gas Stealing

Gas stealing is far from new and was easier back in the 70's. Just remember to use a locking gas cap. Prevents vandalism also, I have always had one.

Gas Stealing

Just so you Know a locking gas cap can be undone with a screwdriver and about 45 seconds of time. I had to do this with my sons truck that we bought. THey had lost the key to the locking gas cap. He had two tanks. I took a screwdriver and used it on the lock and had the locking gas cap off in about 45 seconds if not less.

laugh.gif Never had to try it. So you just broke the lock out? Or did it bend and allow the thread to pass?

The locks on the locking gas cap are very cheaply made. All you do is stick a screwdriver into the lock and turn. The lock will turn after a bit of time and then you just unscrew the cap. Very easy very simple.
