It's not something I would consider however I think its a personal choice. I know the church position but my personal view is that its a very private matter that only a husband and a wife should decide.
A vasectomy will not result in excommunication. It will also not prevent you from keeping a temple recommend, or from serving in positions of priesthood leadership.
There are many valid reasons some people might get a vasectomy and a compassionate Heavenly Father would understand those reasons. I say this assuming the reason is not the pursuit of unrestrained gratification.
We are all very differently endowed with the various resources needed to be successful parents. Wealth, patience, health, various potentials to pass on genetic mutations, just to name a few.
I have a brother-in-law who got one a few years ago, and I admit that at first I was a little judgmental (Quietly to myself) about it. Now I find myself considering one at age 45 to prevent potential injury & death to my wife who has health concerns that a pregnancy could greatly aggravate.
Besides the wrong or right aspect to this what about if one day you wanted to have more children - I mean what if... A vasectomy sort of takes that option out totally.
Just wondering, why can't regular protection be used rather than getting surgery done?
