AFP - Rolls-Royce, the British maker of plane engines, said Thursday it anticipated cutting between 1,500 and 2,000 jobs worldwide in 2009, or up to five percent of its global workforce.

This seems to be a common story. Businesses are cutting their work force to try to ride out this global downturn. I think a lot of people are going to be out of work soon.

Considering others are giving up workers in the tens of thousands worldwide I don't see this as much of a loss. It might just be an excuse to get rid of baggage since the rich will always want their RR and so will the airlines.

Actually I took that as meaning employees that might have been less desirable plus some to make it look good. If hale get hired back we will know for sure.

But I think over all sales are down thus the lay off.
