No. Not true at all. The garment is worn as a reminder of covenants made and as such it is a kind of spiritual protection. But it has no efficacy or power in and of itself. It's just a material article of clothing.

It may be just a reminder but the typical member of the Mormon church will see it as having a 'power' all on its own to protect them against accidents, etc.

Interesting choice to use other religions as a basis to explain the garments. I guess it can work for some people but because its under clothing it makes it more mysterious for non-Mormons.
