Title: Racial profiling

Comments: Am I the only one who feels as though the afro trinidadian has become the official "poster boy" of crime?. This very website has a young black man with no shirt and sagging pants pointing a gun and infroont of this picture has the words "stop crime". Exactly what sort of message is that suppose to convey? Further more how is this profiling going to get to the the root of the issue which is the breakdown of morals and values. Prejudice breeds only negativity. A picture speaks 1000 words and the aforementioned picture has already said too much. Some may feel as though I am giving the wrong issue attention but consider this if all your life you are treated a particular way because of the way you look isn't it only a matter of time before you embrace said identity? For those who doubt my theory look up something called "the labeling theory".

Interesting to bring the picture up, what would have been better for you… a picture of an Indian man? Chinese, Syrian? Would that have told the message better for you or really in the end it doesn't matter because we just want the crime to stop no matter who is holding the gun?

Title: Prevention of murders and other serious crimes

Comments: The only way to stop the rampage of murders and other serious crimes here is for our politicians to show some compassion and take the everyday incidents as an important matter and reinstate the death penalty and start hanging those already convicted of murder.
Without a deterrent and no proper retribution for those random killers we shall continue to read and hear about the slaughter of many more innocent civilians here.
Politicians here are too wrapped up in party politics, and financial gain, which is associated with personal their greed to pay any interest into really preventing to murders of our citizens, and expansion of lawlessness and serious crimes here. All they do is offer lip service.
Our politics are so racially divided that it has become impossible for the political parties to come to some combined agreement in the real interest of all of our citizens that would put an end to the expansion of murders and other serious crimes on this island.
Not dealing effectively with murders and serious criminals here has given the signal to budding and hardened criminals here that crime pays.
All we can look forward to in the coming years are more murders, serious crimes, more criminals and the building of new prisons to house more of our local criminals.
Generally speaking politicians like many of our citizens, have now become immune to the vast amount of crime being committed on this island, and have more or less accepted the island as a haven for criminals.

Comments: It is interesting how we are eager to blame a voiceless poster, corrupt politicians and a corrupt system for our personal failures in life- when in reality- there is something that is termed- personal accountability- perhaps if we all were to take these two words seriously- we might just be able to open our eyes to see where the source of our flaws reside. Pointing fingers outwardly is one way of deflecting our inner weaknesses.

Comments: No one citizen despite his or her morals or self discipline could act as a super being here where fighting crime is concerned. One of the main reasons why we elect politicians, is to ensure that they with the aid of the security services including the police is to protect us from the activities of criminals.
Here however, there is doubt as to the ability and honesty in our politicians and members of our security services to act as our protectors. They together with the judiciary apply one rule for the rich and an another for the poor. The clear impression given is that they are somewhat corrupt and are quick to turn a blind eye if he price is right.
This is not something new. The pioneers of our politics, and judiciary and their successors have all failed to play their part in preventing the expansion of crime on this island since our independence.
The record of crime on this island since our independence counting the present statistics on crime today speaks for itself.
Those in the corridors of power and in positions of authority must lead from the front and not themselves set bad examples, which are emulated by many of our responsible and other citizens.
When it comes to good governance of this small nation, politicians must take the blame for the failure to stem the flow of local crime and improve the thinking and attitudes of all of our citizens especially those who see crime as a paying form of employment.
Our politicians must refrain from keeping our politics based on racial lines. They must put more effort into racial integration if they ever want to achieve any victory over criminal activities on this island.

Title: Murder count

Comments: The annual rate of murders on this island is most likely to surpass last year's figure. The police need more well trained officers and is generally lacking in manpower to be able to deal effectively with our habitual and hardened murderers who now kill at random for the joy of it. Politicians here have wiped their hands of the responsibility for crime and has past the buck to the police lock, stock, and barrel thus turning them into a law unto themselves. There is at present no crime plan as the experts here have run out of ideas and are still not facing the reality of the problem. They continue to offer meaningless lip service and are quite prepared to accept the daily slaughter of our citizens without dong anything meaningful or really beneficial to resolve the problem that has been lingering here since our independence. This is despite promises from various politicians for the past five decades to rid our society of this evil practice. Without a deterrent such as the death penalty, and the resumption of hangings, there will never be any let up in the rate of murders on this island.

Crime in this country will not go down until we see more white collar criminals prosecuted because for me the untouchable wealthy criminals are the ones funding it.

Comments: The major problem here is corruption. The politicians, many senior police officers, and members of the legal profession and even many of our citizens know who the big boys are, who generate crime and use it as a money spinner.
The sad and destroying aspect of this knowledge is that those here in positions of power and authority, standby and do nothing to put these evil culprits behind bars .Instead they act as blinded protectors, provided the price is right. There are many outstanding examples of the corrupt and known hardened criminals being allowed to walk free on this island and escaping the arm of our justice system.
