Religious View: Donating Sperm / Surrogate Mother

What does your Religion or Belief System say about Donating Sperm or being a Surrogate Mother? Do these thing defeat God's hand in things or enhance / help it?

Religion wise I do not agree with it. Personal wise...I feel that there is so much children in the world that needs taking care of...adoption is great so is fostering..think of the lives that you can touch and change for the better..surrogacy and donations maybe just the answer for people who so not see a bigger picture and how much they can do for children who already exist!

I think religion wise, there wouldn't be too much of a problem having a child through artificial insemination, (sperm donor), but I think that there would be a problem having a surrogate Mother carry a baby for you, as this is taking artificial nature to the limits, and I'm not sure how the surrogate Mother would feel after giving up a baby that she had carried for 9 months. I would think that there must be some sort of bonding having gone on for that time.

As Sese correctly pointed out, there are thousands of babies and children already in this world, born in less fortunate circumstances that are already here and waiting for a 'real' family to love them.

I can say with absolute certainty, that to foster children, and also adopt children is rewarding in itself, as in fostering you are helping more than 1 child, at a stage in their lives when they need you the most. (we personally have fostered over 70 babies,toddlers and children), and in adoption, you are offering children the permanency of a 'forever' family, and bringing children into your lives forever. (we personally have adopted 2 children), and it is fantastic watching them grow to love and trust people again.

The Center for Bioethics and Culture has a good film out called Anonymous Father's Day, which deals with the emotional impact on children of sperm donors from not knowing anything about their biological fathers. This too is a form of reproductive commodification and the consequences in the lives of the people created are more intense than I certainly would have thought. Of course, that isn't the only way of being an "anonymous father," but the film brings up issues I had not considered before seeing it. It is well worth your while. Ref. Source 6
