I am thinking about what operating system to put on a new computer I intend to build this summer and wonder which operating system is better. I do not tend to multi platform. The unit is pretty much stand alone limited gaming and will be hooking to 27 inch screen.
I STILL AM DEBATING ON A LAPTOP OR DESKTOP. Desktop might win due to cost for what you get.
So all you experts out there any thoughts?
I am still using Windows 7 and would never use anything else other than a desktop. Windows 7, because it does everything I need, only if you plan to do a lot with a smart screen should you need to upgrade. Desktop because it is an easy fix. Hardware can be replaced and cleaned and upgrading is easy. Laptops require special handling and you are pretty much stuck with what you get, if anything malfunctions then the entire unit becomes burdensome. I see laptops only necessary if you are really on the move and even then it should be just a secondary unit.
Makes sense so I guess desktop it is. Do you constantly install the updates for your operating system as well? I know some people who never do this unless it is s security issue. It seems to me though that they are always tweaking at thins as a result.
Security updates daily especially with the programs you use to connect to the internet (Browser, Email). Why take the risk of procrastinating security when there is so many cyber criminals and malware out there ready to infect your system or snoop. Additionally, you should have a firewall and anti-virus and make sure all your passwords are at a high level. What JB said is true if you are not looking for something mobile but if you are I would get the very best laptop since as JB said they aren't easily upgradeable. You do not have to worry about screen size if you are going home with it because you can always jack in the larger size monitor at home for the games / movies.
They each have their pros and cons but thinking back there was really no reason to leave Windows 7, in fact I still loved how XP worked out until they stop publishing updates for it.
I liked xp as well playbypost. So the desktop with windows 7 seems the winner and will be ordering the parts next week. Thanks for all the input it helps to hear from those who know. Been reading the link you posted lots to get through but really interesting for a stone age beast like I.
