This article offers some good information for anyone dablling in web development. You really need to keep your site focused on the people who will use it, and if peoples' behaviour is changing like this, your website should change to accomodate the new expectations and usages people expect.

Most beginner web developers just want to make a site THEY think looks cool, and has all the functionality the users will need. It's a much better idea to do the required research and figure out what will not only look cool from the USER's perspective, but what will also be comfortable on the eyes, so that the user isn't annoyed when trying to use the site. In terms of functionality, the initial steps include the functionality the user will need, but if people are getting more and more impatient, it is a good idea to put the most widely used functionality in plain view on the initial load of the page, so that the user can see what they need very quickly, and click on it even faster

I think this is a by product of people being so me me all the time that they can not slow down and smell the roses even on line. I believe that in the future more information will be available at a moments notice. As we get more and more used to that I think the worse peoples manners are going to be both on line and off line in the real world. We all know instant gratification can not always be achieved in the real world like it can at times be online.

Having worked in the service industry previously, it seems like that trend of instant gratification online is actually pouring out into the real world. At least it seems that way. In the city, it's most apparent, but out in small towns, the aggressiveness is hardly there or not at all. I think life moves at such a frantic pace now that we have alot of technologies available to us, that slowing down is just becoming less and less a part of our nature.

I work with customers closely and the younger the age the more abrupt and rude they are. Seems we have a social system teaching self importance and it is starting in our schools as the teachers tell the students they are more important then anything else, at least as far as their self satisfaction goes.

We battle at home to teach the opposite that self giving is more important and has a much higher rate of return then instant gratification.

Exactly. We have kids nowadays who want everything right now. They can not wait for a few minutes to get something. I think parents need to make a stand to teach all of the younger generation that while you can get some things immediately on line you can not always get that in real life.
