Arkansas 'religious freedom' bill clears Legislature
The bill prevents state and local governments from infringing upon someone's religious beliefs without a "Compelling" Interest. Opponents of the measure, which has been likened to a recently enacted Indiana law, say it will allow widespread discrimination against gays and lesbians. Gov. Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson says he does not plan to sign the version of the religious freedom bill that sits on his desk. He called on the state Legislature to make changes before sending it back to him.
