House Panel OKs Bill to Stop Unlimited Abortions in Nation's Capital
A U.S. House committee approved a bill today that would stop the policy of unlimited abortions throughout pregnancy for any reason in the nation's capital.
The Judiciary Committee backed the District of Columbia Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act (H.R. 3803), which would end the current legal policy in the nation's capital, where abortion is currently legal for any reason until the moment of birth. The committee voted 18-14 for the bill, which would make abortion impermissible in the federal District after 22 weeks of pregnancy (22 weeks LMP, equivalent to 20 weeks fetal age), unless necessary to prevent the death of the mother. Pro-Lifers Lobbying Hard to Pass Ban on Late Abortions in DC
Leading pro-life groups are working overtime to convince members of the House to support a bill up for a vote tomorrow that would ban abortions after 20 weeks of pregnancy in the nation's capital.
The House is scheduled to consider H.R. 3803, the D.C. Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act, on Tuesday following an afternoon debate. H.R. 3541 is scheduled for consideration under "Suspension of the Rules," so a two-thirds majority will be necessary for passage - a number that will be difficult to reach given the pushback from pro-abortion groups bent on keeping abortion on demand legal throughout pregnancy in the District of Columbia. Family Research Council President Blames Left-Wing Groups for Shooting
In his first interview following yesterday's shooting at the Family Research Council, FRC president Tony Perkins talked about what happened. Perkins said left-wing groups calling FRC a hate group were wrong to have done so.
"Let me be very clear here that Floyd Corkins was responsible for the wounding of one of our colleagues and friends at the Family Research Council," Perkins said. "But I believe he was given a license to do that by a group such as the Southern Poverty Law Center who labeled us a hate group because we defend the family and stand for traditional orthodox Christianity." Corkins entered the lobby armed with a loaded semi-automatic pistol, 100 rounds of ammunition, and 15 Chick-fil-A sandwiches. He started firing at FRC's building manager Leo Johnson who heroically tackled the shooter after a gunshot shattered his arm. Ref. Source 9
